Nice drop, I got the feeling it would be much nicer in a year or three.

So, what can you suggest for $40-50 that I will enjoy drinking in 10 years? He has no chance.
I had a think about this over the past few days. try and get a bottle of Emigre shiraz from Pettavel 2001 i think maybe 02 but pre viogner, and in ten years i bet you it will blow almost anything australian away.

Zig, you'd do well to look at the Bishops again, the last 3 vintages have been crackers. Typical Barossa Shiraz from tightly pruned, dry grown, old vines. Plenty of plunging in open fermenters and a good sized lick of new American oak. The 06 is Plum & blackberry, licorice, black pepper & vanilla, some fresh cedary wood & fine grained tannins. Great stuff.
The Emigre is made in both Shiraz & Shiraz Viogner and whilst the last one I had (2005) will live 10 years (2015) I think it'll be well past its best IN 10 years (2019).
Adlo, I dropped in to Nicks on my way home Friday and tried the SJ Sparkling Shiraz, cracker jack and super well priced. I haven't pulled a cork yet so I still don't know the producer.

I probably will try the bishops atm, i've been into the local iga blokes ear and he reckons he can't get an allocation of the 07 trumps

Never heard of Broken River zig but sounds like they're worth a look if they're anywhere near the black shiraz for $25.00.

Zig/Andigold,
What is the lowdown on the sparkling shiraz? I have read that is should be cool but not cold. Should I just pop it into the fridge for a little bit before serving?

Aldo, I never responded to your wine survey as I don't drink much wine. My strategy is to find something I like (Cab/Sav/Merlot preferred) that is on sale. The most expensive bottle at the best price is usually the go.
That being said, the wife brought home a 2007 Jamiesons Run Merlot last week and it was beautiful.
I will look for that one in the future.

Went through the local drive thru tonight and decided to go for a lucky dip. Asked the guy for a bottle of shiraz for around $15. Ended up with 05 Mt Monster Shiraz from the Limestone Coast. Very easy to drink which for me doesn't really make it a Shiraz. Far too fruity, not enough of the peppery sort of taste I'm used to from a good Shiraz. Give it a miss
