Guys, I'm looking to buy a bottle of Grange to drink not store. We have a special occasion coming up and I'm looking for advice on what vintage to buy and where to buy it from. Most of the local bottle shops have later vintages at $600 +, I would think I'm after something 1995 or older? Budget up to $450.00.??
Looks like you could get a 92 for $450. The best vintages will be out of your price range.

Had a 91 a couple of years ago and it was drinking great at the time. We had a 96 not long afterwards and the 91 was by far better and from not as good a vintage year.
Cheers

Got some quite nice sparkling shiraz from Grays Online this week - Paringa. $72 for the dozen including freight etc etc.
I'm a sparkling shiraz fan and whilst this isn't the best I've had, it's fantastic value.
I'd rank it near the Lehmann Black Queen and Majella sparkling shiraz.
Nice pick up!

Drinking the 07 Cimicky Trumps Shiraz atm, very good, a touch more oak than the 06, which i don't mind. Different to the 06 but still on the same level imo.
Guys the 07 Cimicky imo is better than the 06!! Stock up!!
07 better than 06. Huge call Zig, I better get some.
Last night was the Pennys Hill 07 Cabernet.
This is an absolute cracker for under $20. Ben Riggs is a very good winemaker. I would love to try this in a year or two. Seemed to get better as the evening progressed. Very full of fruit for a 100% cabernet.

You and your pencil shavings!
If you want some serious pencil shaving recommendations, ask andigold.

Had a nice bottle of Bowen Estate '01 Shiraz on Sunday night with fwends....been in the 'cellar' for a good couple of years.
Drank one a while back and it was a bit green...good, but needed some age. The one on Sunday was just spot on.
Been into some Cote Du Rhones lately...French ones of course. I like them with a meal due to the less fruity front of palate compared to Oz wines (which, in general, are big on that initial fruit)
Had a 76 VP from lillypilly near Griffith.
Very very good, not what i would really call porty, but maybe more fortified cabernet, so yes port but not if that makes sense? Lots of oak and raisins on the palate, but not as rich or syrupy as say a para or penfolds grandfather.
I have just opened a Gomersal 06 Shiraz.
I am pretty sure this was a tip from andigold, so we will see how it goes with a nice Fathers Day fillet steak. From all accounts it is meant to be a cracker. I hope so.

It is from the Barossa and it was bloody lovely. I would still pick Summerfield in preference to this, but for the price it is a great drop.

2005 Narkoojee Cab Sav
This was a really, really nice drop. Really balanced for a Cabernet, and left for dead any WA cabernets I have drunk in recent years.
