If you do want a 'full bodied pinot' and are prepared to pay $40, try the Penfolds Pinot Noir.

A shame this old thread has died in the arse. Anyhow, Dan Murphy's this week have an awesome 2 for 1 deal on Parker Estate Coonawarra Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon at $12 a bottle as per this link:

    https://www.danmurphys.com.au/produc...-series-shiraz
    https://www.danmurphys.com.au/produc...rnet-sauvignon

Both the shiraz and cabernet are excellent medium bodied cool climate wines ( I slightly prefer the shiraz), and at $12 a bottle they are giving it away, an absolute bargain.

(*Disclaimer, I do not work for DM's but I've spent a shitload in there since the 1980s).

If you buy the Cabernet drink it sooner rather than later. If later keep it well away from any heat

Both wines will keep 5-7 years if properly cared for. Just leave them in the box in a cool place.

Having the cab sav now. Good stuff. Thanks for the recommendation

I'll add, from Coonawarra area, if you're into Chardonnay at all, the Penley Estate Genevieve is a cracker. Just had a 2016. Delicious.

This wine is exceptional for $15, tastes like a $40-$50 bottle.

Rich bold & smooth Barossa Shiraz, available only in the dozen, but it's a really good investment.

Winery is just down the hill from Tanunda Pines Golf Club. Normally a boutique winery I am somewhat surprised Vinomofo scored batches of this.

This is one of my favorite wines. So rich and smooth. I rate it better than the St Hallett $40 equivalent. Like yourself I got in on the first batch and now the second

I see the wine is 'Golden Lion'. Sounds like a Chinese market line that failed.
Nothing wrong with Lou Miranda though, good wine.

Jokes aside mate it's a seriously good wine for the price, I would say it's a good enough level for you and I imagine that bar is quite high.

You must make home made grappa then. Worked for an Italian family in Melbourne for 5 years. Had it in their coffee most mornings

    the collective

Lou is friends of some of my very good friends.
I have no doubt the wine is good. I'm sure I have drunk it often at their parties.
My only comment was trying suggest why the price might be so attractive, ie loss of a foreign market.

The location of the vineyard and the pedigree of the winemaker suggests the wine should be reliably good.
