I don't triple bogeys will weigh too heavily on the handicapping, you'd be high teens with a few more scores in the low 90's I would think.

Henno... if you turn up on a Sat and there is a spot they will let you play. They will not let you put your name down on the sheet prior if you a going for your cap.
I'm back.

I hadn't thought of that. I have no problem nursing a beer or three and waiting for a cancellation.

Another round today, 96 off the stick with a triple and two quads. So I guess it's pretty much around the same net result on the handicap as the 92. I'm thinking a 20 is looking about right for my first 'cap.
Only one more card needed and I'm legal. New rules and all that - I completely forgot about the 3 card change until I was reminded today.

I am, but at Indro not Pacific, and with two other guys who don't have an AGU. So unless I luck out and someone with a handicap takes up the 4th spot, the card will go unmarked.
Maybe I can sweet-talk someone at the bar afterwards to sign it for me. Providing I don't play rediculously bad - it'd look a bit dodgy getting someone to blindly sign a card with a 112 at the bottom.

Very true, it's probably a good 45mins or so from the redlands.
I have the 22nd and 29th off this month (both Fridays) if you want to have a hit on either of those?

It's official, I'm a 20. Today's ordinary round ensured that a handicap in the teens was not to be.
Anyway, now that I'm legal who wants to play with a 20-cap chopper?

Young, fit and two-shots-a-hole?
You'll now have to change the thread to 'Playing with a burglar'.
Well done Henno, and I hope you enjoy comp. golf as much as the rest of us.
You don't get me. I'm part of the Union.

Shot 111.
Nerves really got the best of me over the first 4 holes, 3 balls on the beach & 1 out of bounds.
Only hit one straight drive all day, it was on a long Par 3 & it rolled off the back.
Well today was a good step in the right direction, went out & shot a 92. Even managed 3 pars in a row, a first for me.
I took my time with my shots, and was generally more relaxed than the week before.
Drives were straighter, irons were more consistent. Wedge play was a bit off, and the putting had it's moments. I simply wasn't landing my pitches close enough to the hole. Need to sort my short game routine out, and take a bit more time over those shots.
Par 3's were the biggest let-down today. Only 6 Par 3's in total, Bogey, Par, Triple, Triple, Triple, Bogey.

That will pull the starting h/cap down a bit. Not that I have any doubts that you could play to a 20 h/cap or thereabouts. Not real good on those par 3s though mate.

It all started at hole 9.... I sprayed one out into the hazard, off the toe. Hit the next straight but short, pitched on & 2 Putted.
Hole 12 I landed off to the right of the green on a bare lie. Fluffed the chip into the bunker in front, got out then three putted.
Hole 16 I sprayed it to the right, pitch hit the bank in front & pulled up short. I then overcompensated & flew the next pitch past the flag. Three putted.
Hole 18, I managed a bogey.
But you'll be happy to hear, I took my time over my shots. Still need to work on a decent putting routine!

It all takes time mate> I have been playing for a few years now but I am still learning.
Played yesterday. Hit the driver great for nine holes then on the back nine started skying it. Damned stupid game!!!!

Played another 9 this morning socially, driver was fine again. Still the putting & chipping holding me back. From 50mt to 100mt I'm fine, but as soon as I get close to the green I sometimes tried to hit the ball right at the hole instead of running it up. Might try a higher lofted wedge next week, see if that makes a difference.
Practice Practice Practice!
