Default Why do so many play proV

Not that I do,is their enough of a benefit to buy a premium ball. Can the ball make a golfer better?

Any golfer will benefit from a ball suited to their game.

A lower marker should get a lot more benefit from something like a ProV in comparison to a higher marker.

The Pro V has an amazing feel off the putter face and reacts more to what you throw at it. For a pro player or low marker this is ideal. Titleist have always had the 'soft but firm' ratio at perfection level and IMO that is why they have been so successful.

Also the balls are generally quite durable

What's a low marker handicap.I have met a few high handicappers(13 or higher GA)that use a proV,good ball strikers, but can't putt or chip to save themselves.

I have never used a new proV,but I am a bit of a ball whore.I give just about anything a go,but at the price I am sort of put off

I shouldn’t have said handicap, you can’t really put a number on it (I’ll use it as a general term) it’s more so their ability to take advantage of the increased spin around the greens and to use it to their advantage. Most higher cappers don’t have this ability, aren’t consistent enough with wedges and scoring clubs and don’t have the necessary tools in their games to warrant the expensive balls.

They would also be better off with a lower spinning ball off the driver so that they spend less time in the trees.

For some, the same reason why they buy and use M5 and M6, or Mavrik, or Mizuno blade irons. Because they are the best.

For others, there is a bit of a herd mentality. All the others in my group use them, so I should too. Besides, lots and lots of golfers don't think too hard about their golf ball selection. If they have played ProV's for years they don't change, even if they probably should.

For most of us: ProV's are good balls. You can't really go wrong with them, you can get two rounds out of them, and you can get them everywhere, including my local pro shop for two ball credits. My pro shop stocks them, but doesn't stock Callaways or TaylorMade premiums.

I play with whatever I find on my ball scavenging expeditions (within reason), but I probably find more ProV's than any other at my course(which might suggest they don't go straight all the time).

Yep,and that is why I guess I am surprised by how many players use the proV.
I guess after seeing it first hand yesterday,I was wondering why a player in our group wasn't using something like a Qstar or similar. His sideways slice cut swing didn't help, and I don't think he would lose anything in greenside control with a cheaper ball either.

    Not just ProVs.

German car brands do very well from people who struggle driving a Corolla.

We have a guy at my club in the mid to high 20s.

Had 11 points the other week.

Insists on using a high end ball. It’s not uncommon for him to lose both his drive and provisional on the same hole. It gets very costly after a bit.

    Dotty, great comparison.

Pro V1's are too expensive; but like top end cricket balls if punters keep paying the premium they will stay that way for eternity.

Any pro or semi-pro will continue to push them; they are the best and free of charge!

I use the Z Star XV, I paid $79 for 3 dozen (so ended up buying 12 dozen!) they react like the Pro V1, spin less off the tee, and are almost as durable

If I lose one, I look for 1 minute tops; if that was a Pro V I would not be the same way

Who are these many players who play ProV1? There are a few good players that use Titleist religiously, but there is just too many great golf balls available now.

I'm trying out the titty tour soft now at $40 a dz is cheaper than the prov1 at $70-$80 ranges.

Today was on a public course with thicker greens and the stop pretty much for me with a few small spin backs.

Still ok for harder greens at my home club... but I blame my misfits more than the balls

Short answer is yes. I can't consistently get spin with a non premium ball so I use a premium ball.

I normally like to play a variety of balls but I found this pro v1x deep in the boonge whilst looking for my ball a few weeks back. No idea how long it had been in there. It was clearly not in new condition but looked playable after a wash.

The following week, I'm playing my club's championship final. I randomly choose this ball for the first tee in case of a nervous snap hook. It ends up flying off the club beautifully and I choose to keep playing it. 30 holes later I win the championship. Would I have managed that with any other type of ball but a pro v? Somehow, I don't think so.
