No problems so far. Cool last night helped a lot with the young 'uns. The A/C will get a workout over the next few days but 40 isnt really that hot anyway.
Beer sales will spike later this week for sure!

A different heat to ours up here is it ?
I assume it doesn't get as humid down in Vic as it does up here in QLD.

I lived in the Pilbara (northwest W.A.) for a year or two, and it hit 48 once, but was constantly in the low to mid 40s. Yet, I still believe I was never as uncomfortable as it can get in QLD. Sure, it's hot; but it's a dry heat so your sweat is lucky to stay on you for 2 seconds before it evaporates.
It's like comparing standing next to an open fire with sitting in a sauna. The sauna might be ten or twenty degrees cooler, but it sure as hell doesn't feel like it.

Very dry heat at the moment Jarro. We do get the odd humid hot day but not for a while.

Humidity is under 10%.
This week will take me back to my youth in Mildura. I've played cricket in 46 up there and we would go a week to 10 days of 40+. I don't think it will be as easy this time around without the evaporative cooler running.

I'd reckon dry heat would be nearly worth 10 degrees. That 40 odd in Sydney on Saturday was easily the worst heat I have ever experienced, and like Bruce/Jack, I grew up on the Murray with 40+ not being unusual.

Yeah, I have to agree Saturday was horrendous. First time ever I have felt the effects of what I think was the early stages of heatstroke.

Saturday was a very very bad day to agree to fill in at cricket for a mate of mine... f'hot standing in the field all day chasing leather around a postage stamp sized ground while pricks tee off at our pie chuckers !

The car was telling me it was 48° outside on the way home this afternoon.
When I got home it was 38° inside. Managed to get it down to 33° at the moment, but for some strange reason the (gas) ducted heating unit has kicked in and is blowing. The heating part of it isn't on, just the blower. Unfortunately I can't get into the roof to kill the bloody thing.
If you start out depressed everything’s kind of a pleasant surprise.

And I left Perth to get away from this sort of weather. Might have to move to Tassie if this keeps up

The local supermarket has a thermostat out the front...read 45 at one point today. Elders weather site says it got to 43.7 at 4:30 and is currently 43.1 at 6:20. Was thinking of going for a ride later tonight, hope it cools a bit before then!

What'd you mean worth 10 degrees? As in 10 degrees cooler or hotter?

Its perfect drinking weather down here today (and tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that, etc etc). The left over half bottle of chardy from Monday night never stood a chance this evening, nor do the 6 pack of Little Creatures beers that plead for their lives every time I open the fridge door....
Heat? What heat!

The power companies are already sending out claim forms to people that lost power yesterday / last night. A friend lost power yesterday just after 6pm, and hasn't got it back on yet.

Great. This is all us Queenslanders need. Another excuse for the southerners to move north to enjoy our mild summers.

Perfect weather for people to buy flowers Guess who'll be closing the doors at 2 o'clock again today. And worst thing is that I can play hookey but it's too hot for golf. Lucky the beach is just across the road from the shop. But then again the pub is not that much further.
We had a bushfire less than 500 mtrs from our house yesterday. Luckily there was very little wind so it was contained pretty quickly. Quite a few houses lost their fences but that was all. Today may be a different story - more windy.

Flowergirl, surely in these times of severe drought and financial uncertainty, the spending on money on water hungry flowers and plants is immoral, unethical, and downright irresponsible!!!
Beer on the other hand...
