The Esperance Golf Club is an absolute hidden gem.
It starts with a reachable par 5 that slightly bends right to left. There are trees and scrub right and water on the left as you approach the green.
The 4th is a great, long and tough par 4, close to 400m and the number 1 index hole. Water follows you the entire length of the hole on the left and the narrow fairway is lined with trees on the right. The approach for the brave golfer is a forced carry, but in fairness, you can play safely on the right side.
5 is a nice par 5, that bends to the left and presents you with an uphill tee shot in which you can choose how much of the corner that you wish to cut.
The 9th is another highlight. A long, inverted C shaped par 4, with a green that is surrounded by trouble. This was probably my favorite on the course.
The back nine is solid as well.
The 10th is reachable in two with a very big drive. Those choosing to lay up are faced with a narrow landing area between two ponds.
13 is a great par 4. From an elevated tee, you are faced with water all down the left side. The green is guarded by a moat in front, trees left and long and water right.
The tee shot on 14 is great as you are hitting from an island tee.
17 is a great, shot par 3, from an elevated tee.
18 is a short par 4 finisher that demands smart placement off the tee.
All things considered, this is a very fun golf course. You are faced with tons of different shots and will hit all of the clubs in your bag.
There is a lot of water, but the course is fair as there is always a safe option. Risk/reward is the name of the game on a lot of holes, which makes for a fun round.
It’s a little easier the second time around when you know just how much you can cut off of corners.
It deserved some respect!
Did I mention I play off 4?
No, but you also failed to mention that John Soroks prick tore the greens up on Sunday.
Naturally grippy
Wouldn't worry about Royal Perth too much....WAY OVER-RATED!! Re-arrange your order to this:
1) LKCC (played about 5 times)
2) Albany (played many, many times as a youngster)
3) Cottesloe (played twice)
4) Mt Lawley (give me a call !!!)
5) Mandurah (played once and impressed)
It seems the only ones I haven't played are the new Kalgoorlie, and Royal Freo !!! (I might know those 'pretend' members too!!!)
WAGC, Secret HArbour, Bunbury and RFGC are all worth a look, TF.

I must be the only one that enjoys playing Royal Perth.
In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king.............
Bunbury> MLGC X 10
Oh I know that aldo...just limited my list to 5 !!
I personally love Secret Harbour...a lot of people don't. The only thing these days is with the encroachment of the housing along the newer front 9. But the holes are great!
I really liked Yokine, too. As well as Bunbury. Best 18 hole course outside of Perth metro (new Kalgoorlie may challenge, and maybe Spalding Park in Gero gets close).
Bergsey's a WAGC member. Happy to help you work through some of your list, MW.

I'm a fan of Secret Harbour.

I like Royal Perth. There are some VERY tough holes there. I liked Secret Harbour too. A friend of mine is a member there and I am hoping to play some comps down there this year.
The courses on MW's list that I haven't played are:
1. Lake Karrinyup. Members of that club seem to like pretending to invite people to play, only to never actually set a date.
2. Bunbury. I'll have to have a hit down there one day. Maybe make a weekend of it and play Binningup as well.
3. Cottesloe. I'm hoping to get my handicap low enough to qualify for something around that course one day. I have walked it once and really like the look of it. I especially like the constant sound of rifle fire and the occasional sound of a ricochet. It's what I imagine war-golf to be like.
4. Kalgoorlie. I Don't really have any great inclination to go there.
I would rate Albany as my favourite course outside Perth.

I'm heading down to Margaret River in April for 3 days "work" any courses down that neck of the woods worth checking out?
What's MRGC like??
I'm off to Denmark shortly. I noticed a course last time I was there. They also have scrapes. Anyone played there?
