Gutted to lose Charlie Watts this morning! When I first got a China cymbal I tried it "upside down" like he does, and preferred the sound and have stuck with it that way since. No one can reproduce his sound and feel.

Vale Renton Laidlaw, very much enjoyed his commentary style.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

Sad to hear that, he made really great putters.

I read on GOLFWRX a few weeks ago that he was very ill.

He had been waiting for the end of time to come up and arrive for quite a while.

I'm actually a bit surprised he made it this far. Apparently he had a heart attack on stage a few years ago.

According to some reports he was a staunch anti-vax mandate and died in hospital from COVID.

The article only says he is a staunch anti vaccine mandater. As are a lot of people, doesn mean they are unvaccinated.

He was also a staunch anti-masker: possibly the least offensive, most effective thing you can do during a pandemic.

Not to speak ill of the dead.

Some would argue that his performance at the AFL GF a few years back was that of a man who was not from this world

I met Meat Loaf once, I was a young naive skinny 20 something delivering and piecing together the drumkit for the show; he could not look me in the eye, muttered under his breath and then said 'where's the coffee'. I helped him get a cup. He shook profusely and spilt a bit on the floor when I handed it to him.

On the spectrum? yeah I think so, I remember his outburst on Red Faces as a kid, just lunacy.

I feel the same way about Stan Zemanek, who really should have appeared in this thread somewhere.

He died a year before the thread started so I reckon that might be a reason.

I expect they'll announce his death only to be quickly resurrected over, and over, and over again.
