    And Peter Brock.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

    Very sad to lose Maxy

I read a few of his books as a kid, had me in stitches. He was a legend of the game. Course then the 12th Man came along and immortalised him. "It's like a baby's arm holding an apple". "No wonder they call him Tangles".

Always seemed a great bloke and probably one of my favourite ex cricketers ever. He will be missed.

RIP Maxy , I think Tangles was the first sports book I ever read , 85 games of VFL for Melbourne as well as 37 tests super talented , but remembered mostly as just a good bloke

Couldn't agree more. I'll have to dig out the old 12th Man CDs and have another listen.

Apparently they've clarified it as myeloma rather than melanoma. Still sad though.

Met him at a cricket clinic in the late 70s when I was a lad.

One of those blokes who literally no one has a bad word about.
