Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.
"Police are yet to say how he died or if the circumstances are suspicious, and homicide squad detectives are at the scene."There are a number of unexplained aspects to it which has caused our attendance here today, and we're assisting the local detectives to determine what has occurred," homicide squad Detective Senior Sergeant Shane O'Connell told reporters.
A post-mortem examination will be held to determine the cause of death."
Hmmm ...
Fight for your right to party people.

Here's the modern follow-up to the classic film-clip (language warning).
Vo Rogue passed away this week age 28. RIP champ.
Your kidding! I knew his brother well.
My dad was part owner of Rode Rouge (some idiot made spelling mistake submitting the form, was supposed to be Rode Rogue), and he opted out of taking in interest in Vo. Rode was fairly impressive on the local tracks and won a few but done a knee and was put out to stud early.
I followed him his whole career. I was at the TAB one Wednesday and he won a midweek race in Brisbane and payed around $5. I backed him and then the race-caller said he was being set for the Australian Guineas in Melbourne. I backed him in that race and from memory he ran third to Military Plume and I got $15 for the place on him. I backed him in every start he had from then on. I was an electrical apprentice at the time, earning maybe $250 a week, but it was nothing for me to have $500 a win on Voey. I remember the day he won the Australian Cup towards the end of his career. I think the odds were around 16-1.
Another highlight for me was when as a 4 yo he was set for the Cox Plate. I was all cashed up to back him and I think the price was around 4-1. I was at the track in Mackay. Well a couple of races before the Cox Plate, Ballook (a QLd horse) won a 2 yo race in Sydney at 33-1. I had a smallish bet on it and won a few hundred and then unloaded on Voey in the Cox Plate. Alas he ran third but I backed him each way.
He came back to Brisbane for the Brisbane Handicap one year and had topweight of 59 kg. I took some pics and got one framed of the great horse. There will never be a horse to catch my imagination like Vo Rogue. Thanks for posting that info Jack.
I have some Vo Rogue labelled very old tawny port here that I will open soon and savor the memories. I think I bought 4 bottles at the time and I have one left.
Rode Rogue was a good horse too. I seem to remember him playing up at the barriers on race day.
He just crushed really good horses when he was at his peak - they had no chance of catching him. You gotta love a front-running champion who does all the work and pisses in. Devastating stuff.
I was right into horse racing when Vo Rogue was at his peak. Loved watching him race.
Vidal sassoon gone down the great big hair washing basin in the sky.
Another equine great gone:

He was an absolute star, one of the very best. Sad week for racing fans.
Very sad to see northerly go at quiet a young age too. Had many fine days watching and punting on him.
Also lost Village Kid (a great pacer) over here in the west a coup,e of weeks ago. He won everything that was on offer back in the 80's. I remember they would have a break in the friday night movie to televise the race he was in. Great champion.
Why is it we as a punter find such a relationship with horses? Im not disputing it i love it. Just a little curious as to why we are so attached to an animal weve most of the time never met.
'Cos it's easier than having a relationship with women we HAVE met...?
