Southern Cross TEN still haven't got the memo to dump the f#$%en demonstration and put the GOLF ON HD channel. I can't for the life of me get hold of Southern Cross and ask them why can't they put it on in regional areas if the cities are getting it.

They have no problems having House, NCIS, Life, etc etc (probably neighbours too) on Southern Cross HD.

Originally I was told via their website that the HD channel would be available in regional areas in July of this year!

And you never realised how good you had it having ads to watch until you watch a show that has the test signal instead of commercial breaks! Man that's boring and seems to last forever...

Depends on size, brand and resolution. A full HD (1900x1800 resolution) from 40" and up are usually at about $2500 and up. But you can get 32" HD (1300x700) for about $1200 or maybe even less. 40" and above I'd go full HD. 37" and below you can get away with HD. You can buy some big suckers, 50" etc in the lower HD resolution (1300x700) for pretty cheap but I wouldn't get that resolution in such a big TV.

Much like golf, you can spend as much as you've got and still ache for something just that bit nicer. Plenty of good advice on http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showforum=6

Rough guide (not counting rubbish from Aldi/Big W etc):-

    HD plasma = dirt cheap. 42" $1k, 50" $1.5k-2k
    Full HD plasma/LCD similar prices. 40" <$2k, 46" 2-2.5k, 52" $3k+

If you buy LCD, get the lowest msec response time you can find.

If you buy plasma, get the longest warranty you can find. Panasonic TH-50PX80A for around $1500 is prob the pick of the market right now.

a 50" HD plasma is cheaper than most art. And it will save you money on heating and lighting.

I got a Samsung 32" 1920x1080 HD LCD a few months back for $1200 from JB HI-FI, its a bloody ripper. We only have a small lounge room so its a handy size.

    Buy a plasma.

LCD is rubbish for fast moving sports like AFL and league.

I own a top end 12 month old Panasonic and I have never been so disapointed with a purchase.

I bought a Sharp 42" Full HD LCD TV and I am extremely happy with it. I have never owned a plasma, so I cannot compare the two.

If you are in the market to purchase, the Plasma's are dirt cheap at the mo

I don't think 2 grand or so will ever seem dirt cheap to me (unless it's Zimbabwean currency).

When I was looking for LCD, there were plasma's of equivalent size for around the $1200-1300 mark (@ Retravision and The Good Guys). I paid $1550 for my LCD @ JB Hifi.
