Some very strange matchplay tactics in this thread.

I'd laugh my arse off at pretty much all of them.

I suppose a few little tidbits.

And yes, upon reflection it does come down to your own mental weakness as well but, seriously, if you have to worry about what your opponent is doing gamesmanship-wise to you then you've already lost the match.

Ultimately, play your game, at your own pace, the same way you do every other Saturday / Sunday / Wednesday / whenever. Keep half an eye on where your opponents ball is, but 1.5 on your own.

I disagree.. it is much more fun to try and get in their head.

I am in the semi final of the thing up here... and haven't lost one that mattered to me. How is yours?

Isn't that what Speirsy said? He pretty much said worry about your own game and play like you normally would. It's not worth trying to get into someone's head and making yourself look like a popper.

Some of the other "advice" in this thread is laughable.

I reckon the only people that would be affected by mindgames are the ones you don't need to say anything or do anything too. They just have explosions anyway.

Need some advice to kick Bushy's arse tomorrow in a 36 hole matchplay. Probably not going to get him on fitness.

Ask him does he breathe in or out when he putts When he smashes one down the middle tell him he has to replay cause he was in front of the markers When he takes his buggy/ bag into a hazard claim the hole When he grounds his club in a hazard claim the hole If he goes to play the new lost ball rule let him then tell him it isn’t a local rule at this club Ask him to mark his ball even when it’s not on your line then accuse him of not replacing it on the correct spot and claim the hole Get someone to distract him just before tee off and claim a forfeit when he isn’t there on time

You really want to do these to a guy with a “very particular set of skills”? 😳
