Just go for a ride. A little climb to my place at the end, but you do get to go down it on the way home.

You would certainly find out if the brakes were OK on the way home.
Still not playing enough GolfLink | Slightly less terrible stats brought to you by Golfshot - F: 57%, GIR: 23%, UD: 14%, P: 34. Wow, improvement! | Nickent brand ho or tightarse? You be the judge!

Mine tend to smell a bit going down there, but I'm a wuss when it comes to descending, and don't get over 60k at any point. Most I ride with will hit 80+ down there, which is illegal anyway. Just means at the bottom I have to put in the hard yards to try and catch them, which I never do since they're faster than me anyway. Not really a fan of riding it as there's always plenty of trucks to go round, and the cars overtaking them.

My max speed is only around 60kph.
I'm too scared to go much faster.
One of my mates (who isn't half the cyclist I am) hit over 95k at Noosa tri, in light rain on a famous downhill segment of the course that includes a bend to the right as you reach the bottom. He stayed down on his aerobars the whole way! (I believe in the dry the record speed on that decent is around 105k).

I'm a wimp, too.
I think the fastest I have ever gone is 56kph. I rode a different hill route a couple of rides ago for the first time and because I didn't know the road I wasn't game to freewheel all the way. But next time I might let it go if everything is favourable. But there is a fine line between fun and recklessness. I want my roads to be perfectly smooth before I start breaking speed limits.

I clocked 60km this morning on the kickr...
You fella's are pretty awesome, 60 is seriously fast if there is no wind or slope assistance. I think @ 55 is my peak on the flat with no wind and I was on a peak for training.
Crit riders are my heroes!!

Never said I was on the flat! I just hate going downhill. I much prefer climbing up the range the back way than going down it. I'm sick, I know.

Legs pulled up well after the FTP test, booked in for a session on Friday morning.
Now I have a baseline wattage to work on they will sort out a program for me to work on.....
Look forward to it.
My tongue was wedged in my cheek. Downhill is fun but Lycra is not exactly leathers if u come off it melts. I share your caution although I have done 80 downhill and scared myself on
Mt cootha in the wet where I couldn't hold it below 70 because rim brakes are crud. Discs are awesome

Had a very scary moment in the RTA big ride a few years back on the stage from Bombala to Pambula. Coming down the range in a decent peleton sitting on around 70km, (was fu&*ing scary) the group parted and I hit a pot hole at 60+ with my arms on the areobars.
Next second my elbows were in the gap between them and no chance of grabbing the brakes. Stayed in the saddle until I sat up no hands for a bit (millisecond) then hard on the brakes. Result was flat tyre buckled rim and brown knicks.
One funny thing afterwards was in the commotion and impact with the pothole my water bottle popped out of the cage hit my thigh/knee flew up and hit a guy further back in the pack straight in the head almost knocking him out.
Never been faster on a bike than that day.

Picking up a new bike today after I decided at 1am this morning that I'd invest in one instead of a gym membership. I literally have no idea where my 13ish year old Fuji has gone...don't think it's been pinched, but I was keen on something new.
Nothing spectacular when it comes to specs...just a current year Giant 27.5 Talon 4 with a wireless trip computer and a pair of Shimano MTB shoes.
I realised when chatting with the seller that I'd be wise to grab some sort of bike rack too, so keen on recommendations for something sturdy but not too pricey...
For 20 years, I had something like this ...
http://www.lelong.com.my/bike-rack-w...-01-Sale-I.htm
Mine was Velocity brand, who used to be a Qld based wheel builder. I mounted it near the ceiling above the laundry bench, so there was still enough room to do handyman/bike work underneath the bike (but not enough room to do any laundry ).
Bunnings or Howards Storage may have similar.

My bad...should have mentioned that it's for the car. I've got enough space in a room at home for indoor storage.
Never had one.
Most of the others had an A-frame rack, as they could carry a couple of bikes when towing a trailer. Base plate is bolted down by the towball, and rack slots into the end of the base plate only when needed.

Depends on bike frame construction. I can't carry my bike in any rack that relies on frame contact. Carbon frame.

I've got a cheapo Aldi one for my car, that attaches to the tow bar. Some of these other models seem too expensive for what they are.
I've noted that as I look through all the different sites. I had seen a simple one locally on eBay but forgot to put it on watch so missed out.
Took the Giant out for a quick 10km ride this morning. Things I learned:
1. Practise the whole unlocking shoes from pedals thing a few times before you get to traffic lights. Fortunately I was in a pretty quiet part of town but twas rather awkward.
2. Drink plenty before and while you ride. I stopped midway through to chat to a couple of friends, and a few mins later found myself on the ground with mild heat exhaustion. I had planned to get a bottle or 2 of water/Powerade from Woolies on the way through...fortunately it was just across the road from there that I had my little moment.
3. Good bike...does what I want it to do with minimal fuss, plus the trip computer will help in my recording of stats. Having never owned a bike with hydraulic discs, it was a world of difference from the old V brakes.
Here's a pic of it with my old Fuji, which I ended up finding in my dad's box trailer. If I can't sell it, I may well give it to him.
