Default The older I get, the better I was

I'm sure this applies to all of us in one or more ways. How do you qualify?

For me it's swimming. Despite only being 25, I don't know how I used to do it when I was 15 or so.

In Yr10 at the state champs I swam a 29.4 second 50m and still got smoked by a bloke named Thorpe. Now, after not swimming a lap inn 8 years, I am clocking up 20 laps in 30 minutes at about 50 seconds a lap with lengthy "breathers" after every second lap.

For me its remembering how I used to be able to play two games of football (soccer) in a day. One on the field, one in goal.

I've just started playing over 35s basketball and I'm flat out running for more than 5 minutes without needing a sub.

    Getting old really does suck.

Sorry, I shouldn't of hinted I was any good.

I was pretty much always played either up front or in goal which should tell you how good I was.

I just enjoyed the run around and now I'm even bad at that

It was certainly easier following the Raiders 15 years ago.

Retired from Sailing at my peak, Gold medal in last race series, 1996 NSW Police Games
Still fit enough to do the bike rides I have done, last RTA Big Ride, Canowindra to Bega. Really want to do another one.

Only thing I think I have slipped on is the getting up the next day after a big drink.

For me it is golf, not the quality but the amount I used to play.

In school holidays my mates and I would get up early, play 18 holes in the morning, go grab some lunch, go the the range for an hour or 2 then play 18 in the afternoon, then once finished would chip and putt for a bit.

Now after 18 I am normally pretty happy it is over.

    That first piss is crucial.

I find if I can hold off for as long as possible on breaking the seal, all subsequent pisses are more widely spaced as well.

So Scott what was Ian Thorpe like then?

Did you ever get the feeling he would end up as a judge on Australia's Next Top Model.

Heh. I remember having a six pack when I was fifteen and had won a state title in backstroke.

I remember getting owned by a fat little blond kid who had just flown into Australia and was about 14 at the time. Michael Klim.

Nowadays I only need to get through the break at Northcliffe surf club and that is in the IRB!

And six packs come in a set of 4!

he'd either just made his national team debut or was about to, so everyone was like, ooh, how good is this kid?!

But to be honest, he was remarkably humble even then, and for a 15 year old boy who has the world at his feet, that's rare.
