AndyP, our Macbook is almost 24 months old and has Firewire.
A good mate is a Mac specialist, so if things go wrong, he is handy to have.
For all the "Mac's never crash" talk, they are not perfect, but they are SO much more stable than a Windows based PC. I can't compare to Linux, but probably never will.

So do users in here have MacBooks, or MacBook Pro's?
Lucy Harris smart smart smart, Martin Harris dumb.
I have a Macbook. It's hard to justify a Macbook Pro for web surfing.
Makes a big difference if you need it for anything graphics heavy. Shared memory is crap. Macbooks are quick enough for everything else though.
Courty, would something like this fit your criteria for a HDD to run with a airport express?
I have no idea what brand HDD to use, it seems everyone disagrees on that, just looking for specs you were talking about.

My mac is back. It was gone for a working day and a half, but it felt like an eternity.
I have the most recently superceded 24" iMac with a secondary 19" monitor, an Intel Mac Mini (media centre) and an old lampshade iMac (for sale if anyone's interested).

Yep, perfect. I'm actually considering one of these at the moment to store all the media for my Mac Mini media centre.
Please note that you cannot connect a hard drive to the USB port on the Airport Express (just in case you understood differently).
Can't remember if it was in this thread or another one - but thanks to whoever suggested getting vouchers from your rewards points instead of redeeming items directly. Picked up a 16g ipod touch for clikchic and an 8g nano for Jas with protective cases and a screen protector and 2 years extra warranty for clikchic for $640! That's about what it cost with shipping to get just the two ipods only through the rewards program!
It was definitely mentioned in Fishy's cordless phone thread.
Good memory AP! Thanks guys anyway.
We gave jas hers today. She'd been saving pocket money for ages and ages for one and we were kicking in half. She was a bit short but Kyan got a present for doing so well at swimming lessons lately so we gave jas hers too!
She was pretty happy. Then she told us she'd give us her pocket money, and also her pocket money over the coming weeks until she'd made up the half !!!!! We told her not to worry about the rest of it - she ended up in tears she was so happy.
Now to the crux of this post...
How do I put movies on these things? Can divx or xvids just be transfered through itunes to them? Do I need some special program or do they need to be in a special format?
I think they need to be in iPod video format, find a converter.

Its an Apple goughy, its meant to be that you can just do it!
Time to fess up. I've come over to the dark side.
I've been looking for a laptop for the wife, and to replace our 5 year old desktop. Came home with a 13" White Macbook this afternoon. Had no intention to go Mac, but there was a special on that made them much more attractive.
Any way, have to hand it back. I've stolen her new toy!!!
Good news, Fishy!

My green light turned orange, and as the married folk on here know, that really means red. I have to reignite the flame regarding her involvement in creating pictures libraries, DVD's etc.
I fixed the home PC (flogged a power supply from a work PC), so that's as good as anything else at the moment.

Turn-by-turn for the iPhone is here.
Picked up the Airport Extreme today.
Hopefully it is "mac" to set up

I have a 12 inch powerbook G4, from 2006. Brilliant, never missed a beat. It just works
