Just works my arse!!!
Installed new RAM this morning (upgraded to 8GB) and have received this three times now...
Ran great guns for about an hour or so.
Have re-checked that the RAM is seated properly.

Leftyhoges, something doesnt appear to be right. if you upgraded the ram yourself that means you are no ordinary mac user then you should know what to do next. If you got someone else to do it then you should be asking them.

It could be possible you have a bad stick of ram, can you take the ram back to where you bought it and have it tested?

Can't really take back as such as I bought from RamCity, but I'm sure I can return...

Was it the correct FSB and voltage and timing, etc? Just because it fits means nothing.
Also, memtest86. Do that.

Well I assumed so. RamCity made me list my specs and model etc upon purchase and they claim on their site that they double check to make sure they send out the right RAM.
I can barely get two or three minutes of run time before it crashes, will that be enough for memtest86?
Edit: Oh, I see its BIOS-based. Never mind the last question....
Edit 2: Shit, how do you get a mac to boot from CD first???
Edit 3: OK, I've found an installable package that should work. Will give that a go. Wish me luck. Worst comes to worst I'll just stick the 4GB back in and hope that works until I can sort something out.

Yep "C" for CD's and "D" for DVD's. I'm presuming when (if) they put blu-ray drives in, it'll be "B".
If you start out depressed everything’s kind of a pleasant surprise.

Nope, not a chance in hell of booting off one, unless it has an Apple logo on it.

I love helping Mac users.
One of our main macbooks in our production area has been getting a few kernel panics ( in windows thats a Bluescreen of death) including first thing this morning. A little later I get a report from the operator
"everything has disappeared off the screen"
So i figured stuff messing around. I steal another mac from somewhere else less important and replace that with an old clunker, and build both machines up in an hour or so. When I go around to her station i see a perfectly functioning Mac, what she really meant was that the Application's data disappeared, the mac is still running fine. Of course i pointed out nicely that "everything" means everything, yet I can still see many things on the screen. The connection to the database was lost. "i have told you that before" and reseated a network cable.
Anyhow we needed to replace it. A few hours later I get a request to install her printer, i ignored that because I already did. After two more requests I ask her if she has actually tried printing something. "No, but its not there on the screen" (she means its not showing in the Dock)
[Facepalm]
Are there easier computers to use than a Mac?

Criticism doesn't bother me, as it means I am doing something and people are watching.

They need to be foolproof for the computer illiterates that generally use them.
We do a full Win 7 SOE rebuild in less thqn 15 minutes and full data restore from the SAN in another 20 minutes. It is fully automated and managed remotely. So it is not just the realm of the MACs.
I just got Lion running and used it over the weekend. Don't see what the big deal is.

Well, I believe I've narrowed down the dodgy stick of RAM.
Unfortunately in the process, my hard drive has decided to shit itself. YIPPEE!!!!
So, using disk utility if I format the hard drive using the "don't erase data" option will I be able to reinstall OS X and basically just pick up where I left off using a data recovery tool?
And if so, what is the recommended tool for such a job?
P.S. This has not been a very good experience with my first MAC.
Just sayin'.....
