ok, here's a mac "issue" I have and haven't found a solution yet. When I open my macbook after it has been closed and "gone to sleep", it doesn't always reconnect to my wireless network. Probably 50% of the time, I need to turn off the airport (or whatever it's called) and turn it back on and it connects no problems. Why is it so?

Also, some muppet close buy has an unsecure network that always shows up on the list. how can I get rid of it and ignore it forever?

I don't have to plug it in at all, just reconnect the wireless.

I never had to do it with windows.

Doesn't happen to me. Obviously user fault.

Have you tried unchecking the 'Ask to Join New Networks' box in the Network Preferences?

If it was obvious I wouldn't have posted it.

And yeah, the 'Ask to Join New Networks' has always been unchecked.

There's a few checkboxes you could play with in the Advanced area, and a list of preferred networks that can be deleted if needed. You may have already done this though. I could only tell you what my settings are.

It's not my network. It's someone else's that's not secured.

Yeah I know I can do it, but why would I do it when it's not mine? Plus there probably other people in the complex that are using it.

well you did ask how to get rid of it. I'd probably change the SSID to "Change your security you muppett"

Last school holidays i decided to ban the kids from using the internet by disabling the wireless without telling them, because they had been playin up. A few hours later i caught them yapping away on MSN and watching Youtube . What the ????

i then figure out their desktops had automatically connected to some muppets unsecured wireless network

What made it worse, is that my service had already been shaped, and I was suffering the slow speeds, while theirs was flying.

bit of and old bump, but i'm looking at getting a new laptop, and have a bit of hesitation as the aus$ is worth sawdust, the price of us/asian computers is going up. The new mac laptops are increasing in price.... I don't want to go pc, but can someone give me an idea of a pc laptop prices, as i don't want to pay stupid money for the apple in this climate. I'd have thought pc prices were dropping if anything??

kpac, there are heaps of good deals on near new macs from authorised retailers. Give some of their stores a call. Mac1 comes to mind. Mate, you'll always find a PC laptop that's cheaper but that's not the point. If I say anything about how good Macs are, I'll start a jihad in this thread. All I'll say is that I changed over & haven't looked back. Good luck.

The lack of super low laptop deals from Dell the last 6 months or so suggest the obvious - that the exchange rate is having an impact.

Most of the sub-$1000 laptops are Netbooks running the Atom N270 processor, which are fine for reading emails and ozgolf. Iam definitely going to buy one of these netbooks but Iam waiting for the next generation Atom first. Any others in these price ranges are featureless bricks with low end Celeron.

If you go looking at Dell' you should be able to get 5-8% discount using on one of the various discount codes that are around the place. here is one www.dell.com.au/anz

and you will be able to load ubuntu on the Dell so thats even better

ok, so looking at option to go PC. reasoning is i've got mac desktops and the rest of the clan has the laptops, so as scary as it is for me i might try and open up the 'other world' of pc.

Problem is what i do is graphic based, design and presentation. I need something that will run Photoshop (cs4), Indesign, 3dmax, archicad and revit. I know a macbook would suffice from apple, i know a mac book pro would be better. Can someone lend advice of what PC's would power these progams with a degree of success.

outside of that program all it will be used for is itunes. Nothing else, no net, no word, nothing.

oh, and i looked at the dell site. little confused, inspiron i thought use to be there good line, now seems to been recommended for browsing only. Studio seems to have taken over.

Are there any other decent online stores for pc laptops.
