I just don't "get" the Mac vs PC arguement.
It is like PS3 vs XBox . . You are all using the same programs, you are all just using it for Email, Web and Porn. Who cares what is in the background ?
And the arguement that Mac's "just work" is also a crock . . . My PC also "just works" when I turn it on. So does my MacBook, I press the button and it just works.
How about "Mac's come with all the software you need to anything". Umm . . . no it doesn't, Well not if you want to do anything properly or quickly. Same with Vista. Comes with WordPad - wouldn't use it though.
How about Mac's are easier to use . . . Hmmm, don't think so. Especially if you have been using a PC most of your life. Oh - you meant Easier to use for "New users", nope... learning curve there also. BUT . . . Control Panels on a Mac is WAY better than control panel on Vista.
How about Netscape/Firefox vs Internet Explorer, boobs and ozGolf look equally as good on both programs. The security arguement is a furfy. Both systems require a tonne of patches for both security and bugs and if you open them up - they have the same Hard drive, Video Card, RAM and CPU.
The only real difference is the price. And the Mac is way expensive for what you get. In fact all Apple products are way expensive for what you get. But they are usually shiny and smooth.
And the obvious question is that if Macs are so good . . . why do PC's have 92% of the world market ? it must because there are 3 mouse buttons on my PC !
Constant errors in Windows was enough for me to change. Of course, I could have just reformatted the drive....again.
Virge - in my view, the MacOS is tuned specifically to be aesthetic and easy to use. However 97% of people's first PC experience is Windows, and therefore that's "all they know".
The MacOS is a little different but supremely powerful when you get used to it. The applications are very much the same, but in niche markets (design etc...) the Mac version of the same software are much more efficient.
Mac's are still a select crowd, but they are winning new uesrs hand-over-fist, virtually unopposed.

I am with you on most of that - but again, it all matches because the software matches. if you Adobe software, or Apple Software or Microsoft Software . . you work out how to use all the software in the suite.
I hate the new menu bar in Vista and I reckon OS X.2 has more bugs in it than a Mortein commercial, especially with drivers and also plug ins for Mozilla and the Adobe Suite.
IMHO, both Vista and the Apple OS are absolutley sensational, providing you don't add more software to each of them. Driver issues in Vista, Plug In issues with Apple, AntiVirus software slows both down to a crawl. I have done 2 of the new Mac Air books last week and I think I have yet to ever see a laptop run as slow as these things. I think my Nokia phone has more usable power than this.
So in conclusion - they are both just operating systems, and we don't USE operating systems. They should be something we log into and then forget that it is there. We then use Word or Safari or Photoshop or whatever.
Who cares what it runs on ?
The comment behind "unopposed" is that Microsoft really stuffed the launch of Vista. It's the same wolf in sheeps clothing - it doesn't really give much more unless you throw serious hardware at it. The PC's come in all shapes and sizes, from any reputable, or non-reputable PC dealer.
An out-of-the-box iMac has everything you need. There's only 1 flavour in terms of shape and inclusions, and it's all there (from image storage and editing, video conferencing etc) in one box.

Btw, I just got a 3G iPhone today from the same source as my original one (ie. free!)
So what's happening with the old one, you lucky so and so?
Courty, I know you wanna tell us, and you are just stringing us all along looking for a bite. So just hurry up and tell us how clever smarty pants you are.
Ummm, nope. I don't wanna tell you actually.
Finally..... but this'll be me when I see Courty next[-o<
"That former Solahart manager is so overbearing and intimidating"."
Greenfinder is now available for iPhone 3G. Just gotta work out if it's worth the $43.
I used it once when I first got it and it seemed quite accurate. Don't forget it can't see through walls & roofs very well.
Quick grab the silver wear and run back home.
