An adventure into smarter golf.
So today I had committed myself to playing some 'smarter' golf. I've known for quite a few rounds now that I get into most of my trouble off the tee.
So I decided to keep the driver in the bag for most of the round and take 3 iron off the tee. The comp was 4BBB Stableford.
Started on 10 today, which was one hole I had decided to actually hit driver. Push right, into next fairway. Semi-fat recovery into trees. Punch into bunker. Out to 1m, make putt. Bogey. Adventurous, but not too bad a start.
11 - Par 3. 'Mishit' iron to 80cm. 1 putt. Birdie.
12 - Par 5. 3i, 5i, fat wedge, pitch to 1ft, 1 putt. Par.
13 - 3i, 5i, 7i over the back. Pitch to 2ft, 1 putt. Par.
Even after 4, and finally starting to feel pretty good.
Had a few wobbly holes for the next few, but nothing worse than a double. Which might not sound good, but off 23, doubles are tolerable. I was actually hitting irons pretty well, and wasn't missing hitting driver. Funny that, I wasn't hitting 3 off the tee or next to hazards!
Front 9 started pretty average. It really seems to be the mid part of my round that i'm struggling with. Made a few bogeys, a couple of doubles. Decided to hit driver down 8 and 9 and walked off Par Par after 2 putting.
So all in all, a much better round. Putter was pretty average, but really didn't get used to the greens. They're starting to come back nicely from coring, but I either left everything short and in the middle, or correct weight and to the right.
But finally, I started to hit the ball how I feel I should be.
Pennants tomorrow. Will see how it goes.
Timah!
