Hawkesbury Classic Paddle 2010

Rating: 2 votes, 3.50 average.
Thought this would be a perfect spot for my Hawkesbury Classic posts.

2010 has now begun. I am on the hunt for a faster kayak for this years classic. Looking at a TK1 class kayak for this years event. They average around 11-13km/h. I averaged 6-7 last year in the kayak I had borrowed. Will be fitter and also mentally stronger for this attempt. 111 kilometres and not the 65 that I did last time.

What happened to the plans of sharing a K2, with the bloke that loaned the K1 last year?

ps. I'll be better prepared this year also. I now know where the better Sausage Sizzle stalls are, along the route.

Will have to show form to get a ride in a K2, that could happen but until then it is TK1.

    Good luck Grunt!

TK1 all the way - and I mean ALL the way.

Steer clear of a K1 or 2 unless you're feeling really stable in one - I've seen plenty of blokes who 'could stay up' in a K1 roll out in an eddy current or when they get tired on a long race. The boat's not faster if you have to spend half an hour swimming with it to the edge of the river and emptying all the water out.

Rachelle has officially resigned as Land Crew for the Classic. Anyone want to assist Dotty?

Still no new Kayak, nothing poping up at the moment. Limiting my budget to $1000.
Going to try some next Sunday morning.

Also to note that all sponsorship monies raised so far have come from OzGolf. Nice work guys.

After a few weeks of no success, today was a great day. The Kayak for the classic has been found. A Horizon Flyer, a pure speed machine. Pick up on Saturday.

Happy is not the emotion that was had today, walked around the house doing the YES! YES! calls after my offer was accepted over the phone.

    Marathon series race this weekend!

Poor result from last weekends marathon series race. Had to retire at the 10km mark. Have been seeing the physio all this week every second day and it seems to have worked. 10km paddle this morning, I pushed hard paddling against the tide to the 5km mark and returning with it. 38mins on the outward 5km & 22 min back. No cramping and relatively pain free.

Famil series event next weekend, 30+km from Sackville to Wisemans Ferry.

Might be a bit of an obvious one Grunt, but is your seat sorted out properly? Something as simple as having your legs too straight or too bent, or just being uncomfortable or something like that could cause cramps that lead to massive niggles during a paddle.

When I bought my new boat years ago I had a special seat made up for it to replace the standard one that came with it. One of those longer marathon seats that goes under your thighs. Made a massive difference to my comfort level in the boat. Your arse is a temple in kayaking.

Just saw your post, I have got a bumfortable seat and also got Horizon kayaks to make a base for it. I have to sort out the final position I have played around in the past few weeks. Happy with what I have but I am going to do one final change this week and that will be that.

Did almost 50km over the weekend.

    Only 4 weeks to go.
