My Golfing Passion...

In 2009 I returned to playing golf. After a 20 year lapse it was a delight to get back into the game as a player. Whilst being a great player will never be in my grasp. Improving and enjoying the rounds and experiences, the good and bad ones is part and parcel of my documenting it online.

  1. Reflecting on my golf game...

9/4/12 Monday This weekend of golfing reflection has revealed a few interesting insights into my game. The best one being the realisation that my ability with shotsplayed has significantly improved. Whilst playing the game the nuances of improvement get overlooked in the concentration that is required to play the shots.

Whilst reviewing the past three months of golfing, the last round played at Bordertown was the one that revealed the most. I used a 5 iron off the tee on the No11, ...

  2. Bordertown Open result....

3/4/12 Tuesday The weekend tournament at Bordertown was one of extremes in golf. The first day is still one that has me bemused at the result. Starting on the backnine my final scores on the nines were 55 and a 51, total gross 106 for a nett 93. Last time I had a 100 plus score was in September 2011 when I was struggling to play with the golfers elbow injury, prior to that was in November2010 when playing off a 19 handicap. This round was one of total inconsistency. Could not drive of the tee with ...

  3. What not to do in a Golf Shop...

29/3/12 Thursday. It was not a planned intention to buy a #2 iron today while browsing at my favorite golf porn shop. Over the past few months I have been considering it as a slight possibility. Mainly because the Diawa cavity back iron was only $15 new in the Specials bin.

Have used a #2 iron previously to good effect and the 17 degree hybrid currently in the bag is a more versatile club. I use it so rarely during a round that it is mostly just taking up space. The lack of use compounds ...

  4. Practice is always a good thing...

27/3/12 Tuesday. Maintaining the practice schedule this week is vital. Monday the effort was concentrated on the short game, chipping and putting drills. Being satisfied with the results on the day is one thing, getting out this morning and playing ten holes to see if the practice had a lasting effect would be the proving ground.

Added a little extra pressure on the golf played by using the #2 hybrid off the tee on the par4 and 5 holes. This club needs some game time to get accurate ...

  5. Ball goes forward most of the time...

26/3/12 Monday. Two days of competition golf this weekend again and the result is more improvement. Whilst the coaching and range practise has been very beneficial since Januarythe game time has been the clincher in getting better at the game. Have been getting very close, playing to handicap and in to the zone of breaking it. What is stopping this is poor putting and chipping.

The Kingston round on Saturday returned 35 points. With two holes, that following good drives fell apart ...
