I think it was definitely a bit of both. But without a doubt I didn't play good golf through the back 9, and that probably helped his 'come back'. The holes I won on the back 9, I won easily, but the ones I lost were deplorable.

Do you really think you lost it the lead or he came back? There has to be some ups and downs within a match. It would be rare to dominate one and win say '8 and 7'.

I probably should add, this is my 4th matchplay match in 11 years. So I can't (and i'm not) be too hard on myself. I think its a skill that I have to re-learn how to close out a match, as well as get a consistent round going.

Still off 23. Haven't played a comp round in about a month, so nothing to change my handicap.

910 is on the shopping list. More likely a D3 though.

Wife says that i'll have a budget...evil wench!

As well as continuing on with my mental toughness. I don't need to be down on myself for a bad shot or hole.

    No, I don't think I overused driver.
I used it when I thought I needed to. Although being a course I'd never played before that doesn't mean I made the correct choice.
Although I did use it as an alternative when I began hitting a few poor irons from the tee.
It's just frustrating that I can go from hitting driver to at least an 'average' standard the day before, to pretty poorly the next. Especially when I don't feel as if I'm doing anything different.
But I suppose that goes back to working towards being able to play 18 consistent holes. And turning my awful shots into bad ones at worst.
As well as continuing on with my mental toughness. I don't need to be down on myself for a bad shot or hole. I'm supposed to have them at this stage of my game. But I also need to trust my swing and my length. I'm not a huge hitter (well I don't think so, I know I will get longer as Martin and I develop my swing) but I know that I'm not disadvantaging myself if I hit a good 3i from the tee. Again, focus and mental strength.

I've read Dr.Bob as well. However I would highly reccomend you read Robin Sieger's 'Silent Mind golf'. My wife gave it to me for christmas this year and I have applied some of the excellent practical practice drills and visualisation techniques over the last couple of months and the improvement is marked. My handicap has dropped from a previously stagnant 13 to 10 and my game has become less technically focused and more target focused. The main idea is to get you to enguage the mind in being relaxed an neutral over the ball and simply accepting the result of the shot good or bad.
i played off single figures as a teenager and ultimatly gave the game away as I used to get very angry, angry to the point i no longer enjoyed the game. All i wish is I had read Robin's book back then as I would not have missed out on a dozen years of golf as i walked away from the game an just started back a couple of years ago.

Ultimatly happy, angry or agressive you've gotta be happy that your out there playing golf good or bad. The book is available on Amazon and I cannont reccomend it highly enough. If your game has met a technical plateau then the best place to seek improvement is the mental approach.

All I can say is I am following the principles, applying the practice drills and my game is improving especially from 100 years and in which ultimatly is what it's all about once you down to single figures.

Did you use the driver a lot during Pennants or weren't you disciplined enough?

Big hitters hit driver way more than what they need too, especially if they hit irons nicely.

Let's hope Dr Bob can help!

Pretty much! Weekend turned to shit. Both rounds where terrible. Swing felt horrible, very ordinary.
Finally got the putter working on Sunday at least.

Lesson on Thursday, which i'm keen for again.

Nice. I love it when that happens. My head get all buggered up on the course anyway T, so I'm not sure I can really help. Blah, blah, blah, "don't think too much about it, but visualise the shot, go through your normal routine". We've heard it all before, it's all good advice, but as you would probably agree (or not), you can take 2 or 3 praccy swings on the course and they are sweet. Low drawback, not wrapped around your head, not overhit......... and then you put the clubhead behind that little white thingy......

    Tongueboy,
I work as a Trainer and Assessor throughout QLD. Some weeks i'm all over Brisbane, some i'm away elsewhere.
I was up in Cairns for the last two weeks, finally started hitting the weights again. Will add in walking/running/pilates this week.

Andy, I may just take you up on that.

Handicap has now dropped from 25 to 23 (24.9 -> 23.5). Had first round off 23 at Windaroo today. I feel like i'm hitting the ball better after implementing the work with Martinez, but I still don't have it down totally right. I'm hitting certain clubs flush, but I don't think i'm getting it across my full set. So that will be the focus for the next few weeks - consistent and solid contact across my full set.

    You can do it, Tim.

Feel free to come and join me at my running club. They run fortnightly on Sundays and there is no reason to be intimidated, as there are all sorts of levels running. 10k times span from low 30 minutes to 70 minutes plus. There is usually a 5k option too.
There are 100 or so runners every time.

Thanks Lucas. We'll have to catch up and have a few rounds throughout the year and see how we're tracking.

    How's you injury going?

Had my first lesson with Martinez today. A few changes to work on, but I think they'll reap some big rewards when I get it ingrained into my swing.
Will try to get out tomorrow arvo and try it all out again, playing this afternoon after the lesson didn't work so well. I ended up playing 'tired golf'. I think the house reno's all holidays are finally catching up with me.
Reddie Bay on Friday and Windaroo on Saturday to try and nut it out.
