Scary stuff.... I've posted here before where to buy them and I am sure the golf companies know as well.

Same old story I suppose, you buy online you buy the risk.

A few years ago, I knew pretty much every stick, and counterfeits were easy to spot.

These days, there's so much gear around, that its impossible for the layman to keep on top of them.

That said, I'd only have got caught on that Burner Driver, all the rest are pretty obvious.

Also, it seems like Callaway are the preferred choice of counterfeiters. There always the ones in the rack at Drummond or Golf Works with the "fakes, bought on ebay" labels on them. As I'm not a Callaway person, I'm reasonably safe from infection.

Sort of like Apple and Microsoft.

This from the PGA Mail this afternoon:

"GOLFWEEK magazine in the US has reported on its website www.golfweek.com (http://www.golfweek.com/) that a coalition of US golf equipment companies finally has got some help from China in trying to stem the flow of counterfeit golf clubs into the US. Golfweek reports: “The decision last month by the Chinese judiciary to jail 23-year-old Tan Jian for four years and three months for running a counterfeiting club operation marked a watershed moment: Heeding the endless pleas of U.S. officials, local authorities began addressing the crime as an offence meriting stiff sentences. It’s one thing to raid illegal foundries, another to actually hold perpetrators accountable. “This sentence is absolutely significant,” said Rob Duncanson, a Southern California-based attorney who serves as director of the U.S. Golf Manufacturers Counterfeit Working Group. He said the punishment is the most severe to date issued for a Chinese golf counterfeiting case. It’s a victory, but one that has come at a steep, if not precisely quantifiable, price.’’"

When you consider I get one or two emails a week as a retailer/ distributor of golf gear from various Chinese people offering me no end of random deals, one person could be a significant dent.

Shoot me a PM if you like and I'll forward one through for you, the prices are unbelievable and if I thought they would make it into the country you would almost have to have a crack at selling them.

Ebay sellers receive them all the time too, but there are more clubs available on that Chinese Wholesale website than there are on ebay.com.

Read the feedback in there, potentially lots of Europeans leaving feedback. The ones who leave negative feedback are amusing, what the hell do they expect

Gees that place is a huge concern -that is the end of me buying anything on the net that doesn't come from a bricks and mortar quality shop.

You know what is interesting and perhaps even concerning about this setup, is the amount of gear that isn't actually counterfeit, but is simply excesses from the genuine manufacturers.

I don't know about the gear listed on DHgate specifically but on several occasions I have been able to buy genuine equipment, just superceded models or those no longer being marketed by the big labels. The way some of these factories are treated by some of the majors is deploreable.

I the minute I have access to some shafts from brand X, that were never purchased by the company......at about 1/5th normal wholesale. apparently there is something like 10,000 of them, just waiting for someone to buy them, accross at least 6 or 7 different models in most flexes!

It's not golf gear but it's related to the thread:

http://www.smh.com.au/news/technology/ebay-fined-over-counterfeit-goods/2008/06/05/1212258942844.html

Mind you, I'm not sure how accountable eBay should be held and it doesn't say if the seller was also fined.

Cheers

That's interesting, yet the golf companies get the stores to stick clubs in a bag at the front stating "fakes from ebay". Some protect their brand, some use it to promote sales !
