Ok, In the spirit of the argument and being a major chopper, I am considering trying a 13* driver. Currently on flea Bay there is a R7 Draw HT 13.5* reg, Sumo Sq 5300 13* reg and Sumo Sasquatch 13* Stiff (4950) all around the $200 mark.

Any recommendations on these drivers? Any others worth considering? Would love a 13* burner ;)

I think the SUMO is the squarest face.

Go a little stiffer or a little heavier...

not a bad idea. i didn't use a driver until I was about a 8-9 hcap when I started golfing. There's a lot to be said for hitting the fairway, even if it costs you 20-30m.

Yes it is a lot easier when you hit the fairway. I have been thinking of playing Reddy Bay without a driver. Not really any holes you need it on.

the first time I shot par (admittedly it was only at Wynnum) was when I left all the woods at home and just played with irons. Dont think I missed a fairway all day.

If you want to give the concept a test drive before you buy something you can try my 12* Alpha with ProLaunch Red Reg. I think the concept is sound and I'll be looking to use at least a 12* driver again-I need as much loft as I can get. However the one thing I will do with whatever driver I get in the future is to make sure its short, at least 44" if not 43.5". I have been gripping down on my driver for the last two months and my driving has improved greatly (still have my off days, but I'm a chopper and that doesn't change in a hurry). I'm trying to work out how to chop the driver down to 44", keep the swingweight up and still end up with a reg shaft? Might have to start with a stiff shaft?:-k I'm going to use the Alpha as a test bed to try out the concept. And before anyone starts I know lessons will help much more than mucking around with the driver, but I'm already taking lessons and mucking around with the driver is just a bit of fun, I don't expect miracles.

I get nervous with other peoples clubs, but thanks for the offer Just. Someone picked up the Nike I was looking at, might have to play a waiting game now.

I changed to a 13* driver. Lost a little distance but made up for it in the accuracy. No good being 20mtrs further in the trees. Now the swing is getting better I'm getting the distance back. It's all about the score at the end of the hole not how impressive you can look on the tee.

You can get the snake eyes with an adapter for interchangable shafts. Ultimate in hoing!

PeteyD

yea that is an issue. Mind you getting a 13* burner is gonna cost about $100 more.

Sounds familiar, was that at Golf Lab?
I dropped in there out of curiosity a year ago, and he measured my 12* Cobra F/Speed at 16*. Nice bloke, and we decided that a better swing was needed before he did his measuring and equipment speccing.

I chased up the 12*/16* discrepancy with a few third parties. Turns out that the Cobra 4* closed clubface gives an increased reading, when opened-up to square. Something to look out for.

I gather the TM460 is slightly closed, giving a higher squared reading.

ps. It sounds like the replacement (10.5 TM 425) may have given me the 12* that I was after with the Cobra.

Jury seems to be out with the bloke from The Golf Lab. Seems to mean well but his knowledge appears less than throrough.

OK. Found an Adams BUL 5000 driver at RockBottom for $120 US. 12.5*. Should be arriving this week, so I will see how it goes. Mind you after hitting 0 fairways at nudgee in the gale anything would be an improvment.

The Adams and me did not get on. Picked up a Sumo today on trade, 13*, reg flex. Will see how it goes and then look at possible reshaft when some more $$ come in.

V2 MOI in regular, make it 44" long and get a 75gr shaft.

Should swingweight to around D0-D1 adn take a bit of the spin off the ball.
