A very ordinary 29 points in the ladies comp today. My partner had a great round 39 points with a few birdie lipouts.

Highlight was a putt-in birdie from the fringe of the green on a par 4 :D That definitely made up for the rest of the game being a complete shocker!

And we had 1 other person in our group who was just never ready to hit their ball when it was their turn :? Turned our 4 hour round into 5 hours

Played Bankstown again today as I felt I could do better after last week.

Well, I hit the ball like a dog, but my recent short game & putting practice saved the day.

I had 36 points, yet hit only 3 fairways. (Which, at Bankstown, means you're chipping out of the trees).

I sunk a 20 footer for birdie on the par 3 3rd, then had a run of five 1 putts from the 12th through to the 16th. 12th - pitch from 70m to 4 foot & sink putt, 13th - sand save to 3 foot & sink putt, 14th - chip from over the back of the green to 5 foot & sink putt, 15 th - chip from over the back of the green to 10 foot & sink putt, 16th - chip from over the back of the green to 3 foot & sink putt.

I know those putts are nothing special, but normally I'm taking 3 from those situations, so my practice made the difference between shooting 36 points & 31 points.

Just gotta get my driver & 3w happening now.

Well played the best round of golf ever yesterday. Had 10 pars, five birdies and the rest bogeys. Broke my handicap, won the putting comp and the monthly medal - what, what, - yes I'm awake now. Yes I know it's been pouring all morning and that the comp has been cancelled. Gee - I was having a lovely dream - you didn't have to wake me up

Yesterday, worst score since i started playing again in 1999, and that was only cos i came back from a 4 yr retirement. Wouldnt have thought that 7 weeks off would make that much difference - if anything the short game should have suffered, but I chipped and putted quite well.

Gotta laugh though, was 1 over after 10, and shot 14 over. Did almost everything wrong exept stand on a bunker rake.

and the 11 I had was a classic. That could be a thread on its own.

Do tell....

Oh, and don't think a 14 over score is gonna help your odds for the champs. You're still the red hot fave blakey. 8)

Ok vegas, you asked for it.....

14th hole at Elakes, water all the way up the left to the front of the green. about 460 from the whites.

Stiff right to left wind, i hit a solid draw - it had no chance.
took the drop, great lie, 190 m water carry, and agressive 2 iron should make it. Hit about an inch behind the ball......

Drop again, bad lie, still with 2 iron in the hand - Tin cup moment!
Belted the crap out of it, blocked but with a draw and it runs around the lake finishing about 10 metres from the green. Now lying 5 - 6 shots to go!

Easy little flop chip over a bunker, lots of green to work with. Hit it too low and catches the frog hair and sticks. Lying 6 and only short grass between me and the pin 12 metres away (about 3 ft off the green). 5 shots to go!

Double chip - 3 putts, easy 11.

It's called handicap protection, FG.

I've started my last couple of rounds a bit scratchy, but have come home strong. So I figure I'm primed for 36 holes. 8)

Played at Sanhurst today in a golf day run by Channel 9 to film for YOUR BUSINESS SUCCESS. They were running a day so they could film a story about running a golf day.

Everything laid on including the carts, the warmup session with 3 pros working the line, breakfast and lunch. James Brayshaw was MC and actually remembered me from my MMM spin on sport fill in segment.

Ambrose event, links style course and blowing an absolute fuekn gale.

We ended up 2 under off the stick for a net 60.625 and rueing the missed birdie putts. I got beat for a NTP by 15cm. Lifetime best driving. Did not miss a fairway all day.

We ended up getting filmed quite a lot as we had two women in our group and one of the programs focus items was women networking on the course. The show goes to air Sunday 28 November at 7:30AM (for those who can get up in time)

Had my usual morning this morning. Tee'd off about 5.10am for a quick nine by myself. Typical. 1 from 8 for fairways (hit dead centre on the first hole, No. 10). 0 for 9 gir  . 6 over par with 3 putts burning the edge of the hole.

I might have to go play at the corinda pitch and putt with onewood and mitchell; it seems that is where the essence of my game lies.

I've had a lovely week.

Murray Downs Mon arvo, Tue morn and arvo. 38. 36 & 35 points. Monday's score was good enough to win the A grade in the Police charity day we were playing in, celebrities everywhere, one of my travelling companions played with the Mayor.
Was due to play at kingston Heath yesterday but Melbourne's beautiful spring weather forced us inside to Crown Casino to watch the 3rd test and bet on the Balaklava races.
Played Ranfurlie today with judgesmails, 2 up in a par event to tie for first in the comp with 4 others, beaten on countback.
The Downs and Ranfurlie are both well worth playing if you get the opportunity.

Holey squamoley....I thought my old man was the only bloke that still referred to the fringe as the "frog hair".

I have no idea what a KB or Fresca is old man!

The frog hair is the extra thick grass around the bunkers that the mowers cant cut. If your gunna sledge at least get it right.

After shooting my worst score on 5 years on wednesday, I went one better today - a mighty 87. On the 14th hole racking up a massive 20 strokes over two rounds. Things are looking up for the Ozgolf champs - I cant play worse - surely?

33 points today with one of Mau's OOB on the last :D

Very windy today was my excuss  but a better day with the putter 8)

A side note the greens at Logan are on there way back :P the greenkeeper actually went around and hand sanded the greens rather then sand the whole surface 8)

33 points today with one of Mau's OOB on the last :D

speaking of which....

I played 9 yesterday - back nine...
on the 11th...with the wind coming off reasonbly steady off the beach (right), figured I would take the "tiger" line, and hit it right of the pine tree, and try to draw it back in...
nice plan, poor execution....actually managed to slice the SOB INTO the wind...made 7...

so what do I do this afternoon....SAME FRIGGING SHOT!!!

shot 41 on the back (first 9), with 3 penalty strokes, and some shocker putts...not happy...

bogeyed 1 and 2 - care factor 0  :x

missed bird on 4 and 5 (both girl putts), bird 6, bird 7, missed bird 8 (another girl putt), and bird 9 to come back in 34, and 75....gotta be happy with that!!!

dinner will be enjoyable!!! :D

Played the open comp at Eastlake GC today - Matt & Jodie's new home. A very impressive course - quite hilly but the views are spectacular - the harbour, the city, The Lakes & Bonnie Doon GCs.

I played a bit average - took me a few holes to get warmed up (I started 1,1,-!) but came home with 32 points - not too shabby but not my best work! In any case, I won the $1 bet with Brad.

It was a slow game - they had 3 social groups in front of us - they were playing stroke as well - so it took 5 hours for the round :? We'll definitely get an earlier tee time for our next game there.

Amanda, first things first. You obviously got accross the road in one piece.

I like Eastlakes. Weak par 4's, but some good par 3's & a couple of reasonable par 5's. How did you go on the 13th ?

Andrew

P.S. Next time you play there ask Brad about a member by the name Steven Gibson. I'm sure he'll know him. He off about 3. He's a small guy who grunts like a gorilla every time he plays a bad shot. Quite amusing.

2 x 9 hole stints in Port Maquarie this weekend.

Saturday played the back 9 at Port Maq GC, really impressive set of holes, shame we ran out of time to go on with the front. Played terribly.

Sunday played Emerald Downs - a 9-holer but work has commenced on the back 9, which is meant to be done by Christmas. Very 'ordinary', but with some TLC, grooming and preparation it could be a cracker. The fairways were basically Buffalo grass, but hopefully that will be re-dressed in the future. FYI - ended the round playing better than i started, but still a long way from playing decent golf.

Port Maquarie has some really good tracks around it, PM GC has rave reviews, Emerald Downs will be great in a couple of years, and Camden Haven is about 25 minutes away, and also meant to be a great track. There's also talk of a resort on the 'North Shore', but at the moment there's nothing over there except for mangroves and dirt tracks, Port Maq hasn't quite expanded and crossed the river yet, so that could be 5 years away...

What can I say? It was a tale of extremes yesterday. I went around the first 9 in 7 pts   and it cost me 4 brand new Hogan's. I couldn't do anything right. Didn't hit any fairway's in regulation and I only hit 1 GIR (shortest hole on the course). 3 putts galore. I was really out of sorts. I thought the 17 pts record was sure to fall this day. I have since declared it as an abherration, a 1 in 100 year storm.
Then, after the turn, I took a deep breath and cast aside the memories of the misery I had just gone through to shoot 18 pts.
What I was most impressed with, though, was the ability to knuckle down and concentrate and play to handicap on the 2nd 9 after such a disaster on 1st 9.
The cuase of all my problems was some niggling back and knee pain from indoor cricket which prevented me from getting my weight forward and swinging through the ball. That's my excuse anyway...

Sunday played Emerald Downs -

Where is Emerald Downs? I used to live around those parts.

and Camden Haven is about 25 minutes away, and also meant to be a great track.

I enjoyed playing there, many entertaining holes. Including the last which is a 'reverse dogleg' ie the tee points away from the hole, so long drives are not effective. The condition of the course is very 'country' though.

Update, Blakey?

I had 91-95 at Cool-Tweed (West/River) yesterday. I'm not really upset by those scores, but it would have nice to play better.

Just didn't hit enough greens, and didn't get enough pars as a result.

I was happy to see the driver return to form. I'm really hoping that I have figured the club out now, and keep it playing pretty consistently. [-o<
Problem yesterday was that the driver wasn't the greatest choice off the tee at the course, so I found myself in a few fairway bunkers.

Where is Emerald Downs? I used to live around those parts.

There's a new 'estate' area called Emerald (inc street names like Ruby St, Sapphire St... you know how estates work, you live on the Golf Coast ..). Go past the Tacking Pt Hotel, down the hill and to the left. Sorry i can't be a little more precise. It looks like Pt Maq is expanding in that direction though.

The Golf Course Guide gives it a rap, Kike fairways and Bent greens, so it might be in better nick than when you last played it. About 5700 metres i think? Par 71.

Port Maq would be a great Golf Tour destination, especially when Emmy Downs is complete - you would have 3 good choices to visit in 3 or 4 days, not to mention Port Maquarie being an awesome spot to go for a holiday.

And when we're done we can all have a comp to see who knicked the most stuff from 3Oneday's brother's Pro Shop or free the camels (over the road from PM GC).

Hey Andrew - crossing the road was quite scary - but I survived both times - thank goodness for the island in the middle.

Is 13 the par 3 uphill? If it's that hole, I had a measly 1 pointer after hitting a slice into the rough and hitting my 1st putt way too hard. To make things worse - the sprinklers were on - the water smelt a bit funny :?

Hi All,
Played Sunday mid morning CI Resort course off the blue markers, shot 95 in what I could only describe as blustery conditions.Had 5 pars,8 bogeys,3 doubles and a quad.hit 5 fairways with 3 greens.Seemed to be in the bunkers a lot last w/e.But the highlight would have to be the 310y drive on the 524y par 5 hole 9 and then backed it up with a 323y on the 506y par5 hole16,albeit wind assisted.Yuo got to have at least one highlight per round.Playing in a 3ball ambrose charity day this Sunday at Yeppoon G C,looking foward to that one.Cheers,Craig

Back from our week at the Coffs Harbour Festival of Golf - no spectacular golf although I had 38 points on Monday for 3rd runner up (like Miss World  ) and got a golf shirt.

Would recommend this week to anyone - the club goes overboard to make it a success and it is well run on a nice course - see www.coffsharbourgolfclub.com.au for details.

Played Bonville on Thursday - definately a recommended course - interesting risk/reward holes, good condition, attentive refreshment cart and spectacular scenery.

The best part of the week - .4 closer to Caz - only 2.5 to go :D
