What is the most anyone here has spent on a putter? Getting sick of changing all the time. Thinking about buying one of the scotty cameron cenreshaft prototypes (newport). Trying to justify the $700 odd dollars it's going to set me back. Have wanted one for ages.

I wouldn't pay $700 for a putter

I wouldn't pay $700 for any golf equipment!

Depends on your disposable income, and how much you feel comfortable spending. Since your asking us, I think maybe you think it's too much as well. Otherwise you'd just buy it and then post pics here of your new club ;)

I try to keep my total bag cost under $700, including the bag.

For $700 I'd expect the thing to give me a massage at the end of my round of golf, that is a s**tload of money for a putter, My limit is around the $350-$400 mark for any equipment.

About twice as much as your driver . . .

disagree.

Sure, the putter is the most important club, but technology in putters isn't as expensive/advanced and a $100 putter can likely do the job of a $700 putter.

$0.00 ;)

I inherited mine from my dad, which was given to him when he visited the PGF factory to get his new clubs. They said it was a prototype so he could just take it. might have something to do with the fact that i am such a great putter.....

Isnt it strange that 50 years on, prototypes now cost $700.

If I had more disposable income, I'd pay $700 for a limited edition scotty. I think they're cool and will hold their value pretty well.

Yeh but would you use it?, if you are buying it for an investment they have to stay in good nick you could not take it out every weekend for a putt, well I could'nt it would be marked in a month.

no, it'd go on a rack.

Not going on a rack. Just picked one up for $500 (no prototype headcover / waste of money anyway as i have a US open cover with the taxis on it the year Ogilvy one). Looking forward to hitting the greens with this thing.

I picked one up in the pro-shop last week. Was too scared after I saw the price tag, so I put it back.
$250 gave me the shakes!
Most I've spent... Second Hand Cobra Blade putter. $50.

i spent $350 on a scotty, never again will i do it.
i have a 2ball that i didn't even pay half that and it works fine.
as people have previously said it depends on income.
why pay $700 when something worth say $100 can do the same thing.
afterall it's the person on the end of it that makes the difference.

My current bag cost me just over 2k, and that was half price or less on driver, 3wood, hybrid, irons and putter. Bag was retail, and 2 wedges were retail, although one was in exchange for some work I did for the club pro.

The extra clubs I have add up to another 800. A putter I bought before I even knew of golf forums, a 3 wood, and 2 irons I got retail, although they were also in exchange along with the other wedge for work I did for the pro.

I paid $470 for a Scotty Newport Detour. I've regretted it ever since.

I agree with Moe. There is no earth shattering science behind building a putter. It shouldn't cost as much as a driver.

Paid $140'ish on a Mentor Sports Duet and it's worth it's weight in gold.

Where can we get impact tape for putters? Was reading Dave's putting book about it.

Does a bulls-eye putter provide more feedback or a pure blade putter like Wilson 8802 style?

I paid about $200 for my Yes! Tiffany. Still got it, and love it. It's just the turkey hanging off the end that causes the putts to miss.

The diff between $200 and $500 is neglible.

my opinion (uneducated as it may be) after owning both styles is that the bullseye style is more forgiving or balanced than the heel shafted blade style. If you've got an arc putting stroke then an 8802 would suit your eye. I had more luck with the bullseye. (did i mention i've got one for sale?! )

i (well the actual culprit need not be disclosed due to risk of life of celibacy) put a ding in a very good condition scotty but rather than regret it it's now the most expensive piece in my bag and will stay there ()

LOL!! I never thought the "You Sky, You Buy" rule would be needed for a putter...

its all about how much u feel is a good investment on a putter. ive spent 350 on a proto 1.5 beach cameron. never saw a golf course only carpet and about 2months ago i sold it for 450usd.
