First round of the Nudgee Midweek Champs.

Shot an 85/73 to start. Pretty blowy out there today but i didn't strike the ball too badly .. only a few brainfarts prevented a pretty handy score.

7 fwys
5 G.I.R's
31 putts

Concord GC off the absolute plates, ask virge how tough it was set up.

Took me a while to work I had 30 stab points as we were playing a modified Irish stabfest.

Hit the ball pretty well, but could not read the greens AT ALL.

8/13 fairways
9/18 GIRs
40 putts :(

Played pennant today - we played Portsea at Portsea in the most perfect conditions. I played a girl of 11 who has played pennant for over 30 years:shock: I was one up at the turn - should have been more but I just could not get the speed of the greens - then lost the next two - won the next - squared the next - then lost a ball - lost the next and game over
My ball striking today was the best I've ever played especially around a course like Portsea ( except for the horrible shot where the ball lost itself).
The team lost 1 -6  We were outclassed all round. We all were playing girls with much lower handicaps - it's hard when you are playing girls on their own course and their hanicaps are 6 or so lower. But that's how pennant goes.:smt023
Playing tomorrow at Rosebud Country Club. Let's hope I can get it together and play well.

Well another Blog/Result;)

Played St Mick's today as part of a Golf Australia Magazine club test. Only had my Driver, 4 wood, 52,56,& 60 wedges + putter.

Golf Australia supplied me with
Nike Sumo2 3 & 4 Hybrids with Reg shafts
Callaway FT i-brid 3i-PW Irons with Reg Graphite shafts

The Nike's were great, Callaway's were good too.

Round was even better
88 Gross
71 Nett
3 birdies :)
2 pars
9 Fairways
5 GIR
33 Putts

Was way better than yesterday, that much better if I were a racehorse they would be calling for a swab.

Picking up a club tomorrow for the first time since Easter. Have no expectations and am even considering using a gut putter since I'll be lucky to make contact with any other club anyway.

Played yesterday at Rosebud Country Club in the Challenge Bowl - teams of three - best aggregate stableford score wins. We came in 5th out of 27? teams - not a bad effort.
I was striking the ball too well to start with - overhitting the greens and again my putting was poor. Today I'm going out and spending at least an hour on my putting. Had 33 points - could have been so much better.

BUT- all the other A graders played worse than me cos my 33 points was enough to win the Silver Division - a beautiful engraved crystal vase - and that's going straight to the poolroom. Sometimes average is good enough.:smt038

Played the Mcleod Cup today Single Stroke
shot 89/77
I was quite happy with the ball striking today and holed a few good putts.
The 4th hole cost me dearly today racking up a nice quad due to some terrible bunker play  Missed 5 greens buy a metre or less.

8 Greens
7 Fairways
29 putts

8 Pars
6 Bogeys
2 Doubles
1 Tripple
1 Quad

Jogged 15 holes today at Caboolture. Couldn't get through 10-12 because the comp had already started. 1 under hcp for those 15 holes. Hit the ball OK.

I had a lesson last week. I'll tell the story in another thread, but the swing changes that seemed to work on the range were an absolute failure on the course today. Instead of helping me to eliminate my reverse pivot, it was worse, causing two terrible shanks and lots of other bad shots. Combined with frustratingly bad putting, 29 points was a bad score on a bad day.

Fairways = 10 of 14
Greens in reg = 4 of 18
Putts = 34, zero 3 putts, zero birdies
Up&Down = 1 of 10
Sand Saves = 1 of 3
2 penalty shots, from a shank out of bounds from the middle of the fairway.

12/04/2008, McLeod Cup.

7/13 effective tee-shots.
8/18 effective approaches.
5/7 up and down successes.
34 putts.
-------
9 pars.
6 bogeys.
3 others.
Score 45-38-83 nett 73 (Par 37-34-71)

It mightn't seem like a good score, but I'm wrapped with today's round. The main thing I wanted to do was to enjoy it more, as I'd started to let my expectations get to me on the course. Mission success.

The bonus was that I actually hit decent approaches today, instead of the huge misses to the right. This meant more effective approaches, plus easier chips if I did miss.

The occasional errant drive and 3 putt was annoying, but hopefully I can start coming out of this slump.

Next rounds: 26-27 April at Woodford. Hmmm, might be one of the rare rounds where I go in without a course plan.

I put my first 2 tee-shots in the drink and wiped them both so I was expecting a crap round, but I found my swing on the 3rd tee and played very consistently for the rest of the round. A couple of birdies on shot holes gifted me 2 x 4 pointers and I lipped out a curling downhill 3 footer for bird on the last which would have seen me finish with 36 pts. I'll take 35 pts any day after a start like that.

Shot 51 today for 9 holes. 42 Nett. Improved, but still work to be done.
Dropped one ball in the water on the first, but recovered well.
Short game was a let-down once again, was very hot and cold.
Will work on sorting out my putting stroke out over the next week.

Used a Srixon AD-333 ball for a change, and was quite pleased.
Also tried a flop shot or two, worked quite well. Just have to remember- there's a time and a place for the flop shot!! :)

Also found a bloke passed out in a bunker on hole 3. Scared the be-jesus out of him with a sand wedge shot past his head.

Cheers

Mid-round choke?

The marks in the bunker told another story... He certainly wasn't in there on his own!!! :smt079
I doubt the bunker would be the most comfortable place for it!

Played nudgee on friday 11/4. 42 points

Down to a new low of 12.7. Basically just stayed out of trouble. Didn't feel like it was that special.

McLeod 12/4 96/83
Had a few issues but didn't think i was scoring that badly considering.

Royal Pines 13/4
82/69... i was actually surprised, the water isn't in play as much as i was expecting. Its not a bad course, the greens were a touch slower than what i expected. Ps.... this score was actually for a 2 man ambrose. I can honestly say that we didn't have to use one of his shots all day!! He was a very average golfer having a bad day. I think he lost 12 balls in the end.

Played the Riverside Open, 18 holes Saturday 18 Sunday.

Saturday
79 - Nett 74
10/14 FW
7 GIR
31 Putts (1 3 putt)

Lot of soft Bogeys, iron play wasn't quite there. Highlight of the day was an Eagle on the 451m Par 5 11th. It is a dogleg left, hit driver over the bend to about 190. Hit a small fade 3 iron to 10 feet and made the putt in the heart. Unfortunately I doubled the next to give em back!

Sunday

76 - Nett 71
11/14 FW
7 GIR
25 Putts

Hit it a bit better, but irons were a bit off still, trying to get too tricky shaping the ball, wind was up a bit too which didn't help. 4 Birdies for the round, 2 bogeys and 3 doubles. Highlight was a chip in on 4 and a 9 iron from 125 on 8 that hit the pin (unfrotunately it ricochet off the green!) Oh and a birdie on the last in front of a packed 1/2 drunk clubhouse (nothing like playing in the last group!)

went down to coffs harbour for a few days over the weekend

managed to get out to bonville for a hit on friday
doubled the first but finished 7 over to be 1 under my handicap.
Was extremely happy with how i hit it...never seen the course before and was using a set of irons for the first time. Awesome track though

Lipped out for eagle on the 18th which was a bit frustrating but still a fantastic day

Took the new irons out for a test drive today. First time out i scratched around for a 6 over 77. 1 over handicap with 35 points. Not bad really but think they will be much better after i pick them up on friday from reshafting. Also having Driver reshafted as well so looking for good improvement. Anyway heres the stats.

11 of 18 greens
34 putts.

Would have been nice to sink a few more today but pretty happy with the ball striking.
