View Full Version : Gailes Black Marker - Friday May 9th - 8:30 & 8:36am

Courty
20th March 2008, 11:14 PM
Hi all, I've just booked some flights to come down on the Thursday evening, and will be playing on Friday somewhere. The venue is yet to be decided, although Brookwater is a distinct possibility as I'll probably be staying with a mate out Ipswich way after the game until I return home on Sunday night.

Mate, if you were playing a blue collar course i might be interested.

Courty
21st March 2008, 07:46 AM
As I said, Blakey... the venue is TBA. And anyway, you should be doing it for my company, not because of the course. :???:

There is a par 3 in Ipswich?

I have probably got logistical issues with traveling that far on a Friday. If you were to head anywhere further south I would be able to manage it. But dont rely on me, work out where your playing and I'll consider it

Courty
21st March 2008, 11:16 AM
Anything is possible yet. Davo is a member at Virginia and lives in Clayfield, so anywhere in between there & Ipswich is most likely.

AndyP

Courty

OK, Davo has the day off confirmed, so he is in permanent marker. Has anyone got any suggestions for a venue? Any open comps on Fridays?

AndyP
29th March 2008, 08:01 AM
Nudgee - $20
07 3267 7744

Oxley - $19 (9:30a-12:36p)
07 3379 6322

Pacific - $40
07 3343 0888

Wantima - $14

Wynnum - $17
07 33963546

2nd
Gailes - Stroke (Back) - $20 (Burger)
07 32712333You probably don't want to play Nudgee again. Gailes could be one to go too, especially on their Black marker day.

What about Indooroopilly? Is it difficult to get on there? Cost?

AndyP
1st April 2008, 09:09 PM
It shouldn't be difficult to get on, as long as you are happy to play which ever 18 the members aren't. There has also been full hole rebuilds lately with Watsonising of the course.

Cost is in the $40-45 area, I think, but if you have the Golf Course Guide it would be half price.

bit strange with that fixture book entry for the associates pennants. talking to Gailes, apparently all Dingoers off the 1st right thru to 12:30ish. i booked in for 7:30.

Rusty
8th May 2008, 10:15 AM
woohaa! i just rang to swap my name out of 7:30 to 8:30 - there must have been a mix up with the original booking - they had a group of 3, all unfamilar names at 8:30 & no one at 8:36, 8:42 or even 8:24. so i booked us 2 lots of 4 at 8:36 & 8:42. probably wouldn't have been an issue anyway, but just in case.

First id like to thank Iain, Just and Freddy for the game today the company was good and at least we were all able to have a bit of a laugh along the way to keep our sanity. Also good to meet a couple of other ozgolfers in Courty and Davoswain. Was a long slow day which is typical of gailes and i think one of the reasons i only go out there every now and then. The course in itself was in really good nick with nice sand in the bunkers and the greens were great its just too bad about some, if not all of those pin positions they were tuff. Also a lot of water in front of the greens which made it a bit harder also for the shorter hitter to run it up. All in all a good day thanks again guys. P S hope you didnt get to work too late Iain :)

AndyP
9th May 2008, 03:48 PM
Gailes defeated all of us today, if we didn't destroy ourselves.

Pins were in really tough positions in two ways. They were usually tucked in tough spots only a couple of metres in from the fringe. And they were generally hard to putt around, as they were hard to read or a tricky slope. There weren't many putts you stood over with confidence.

The tees were back as far as they could go. And as jaybam said, the sogginess in front of the greens made the course really long for a short hitter like me.

I think the slowness was from the amount of shots we had and the trouble on the greens. Oh, and me, of course.

Here's the stunning scores:
AndyP 91 nett 80
Davoswain 91 nett 80
jaybam 87 nett 81
freddya 93 nett 82
Courty 91 nett 83
Iain 94 nett 84
Rusty 94 nett 85
just 116 nett 92

Thanks for the day all. It's good to have Courty down again, and hopefully Dave will play with us some more or post.

Not !!!!!!

AndyP
9th May 2008, 04:03 PM
I thought I played worse than my score actually.

Courty never figured out the greens. He couldn't read them and was constantly pumping them long.
Rusty was 2 over through 8, then fell apart after a messy triple on 9. It's the most I've seen him rattled, he just didn't care on the back nine.
And noone could sink a decent putt.

jaybam
9th May 2008, 04:05 PM

I used a leave day. It was much better than work. Despite playing ordinary, I'm enjoying golf a lot more the last few times I've played. I think it's because I've been playing crap for a long time, and I don't have any expectations about how I'll play anymore.

Where was the pin on the first green ?

Don't tell me it was in that silly mid/top right possie where you can actually putt off the green into the bunker

just
9th May 2008, 06:18 PM
Yes, it was Jarro and a lot of other pins were on slopes so if you didn't hit it, it would roll right past. This game was just embarrassing, I was going well until the turn and then the effort of a short hitter like me trying to hit long into greens using fairways and hybrids into every hole started to take its toll. I'm not accurate enough with these and my short game wasn't up to the task of scrambling to recover. I fell apart on the last nine. Awful stuff. But I'd give it another go!

AndyP
9th May 2008, 09:26 PM
