Hi ozgolfers just looking for peoples opinions on these putters. Am currently considering purchasing either a Studio style Newport2 or Newport 2.5 as i have wanted a Scotty for a long time. Any one here use/used one and if so how do you rate them. Also where would be the best place in Queensland to pick one up. Drummond seem to have a good variety. Any help or comments would be nice. Thanks in advance :)

Some think they're great, some don't rate them.. I have 2 and think they're pretty good, but I don't think they are "the best" putter as what is best is what gives you confidence and that can change over time.

But don't, I repeat don't pay retail, eBay is your friend or just post a WTB thread here, someone will have one to get rid of :)

I had a newport Tei3 and loved it, but for some unknown reason sold it during a lean spell. They're top putters, but it is, as with any club, important to get the right model and weight, length for you. eBay might be cheaper, but you sometimes get what you pay for.

just found this one but once again how do you know?? Is about 100 to 150 cheaper than some golf shops.

Do your research on ebay, there are some people selling scottys that are all legit - disclaimer, I didn't buy mine from ebay.

I would still confident though buying one used or new from ebay, same rules apply as buying other stuff, use a trusted seller, ask on here about particular sellers, if they're big enough there's bound to be at least someone on here that ahs bought from them before.

My reason for buying used/ebay is that I woudl never spend $350+ on a putter, althoguh at least with the scotty it's not worth $100 the day you take it out of the shop and it does hold some value.

I have a Neport Studio Style 2.5 picked it up used for $200, that one looks legit, especially with headcover and divot tool etc.

Send him an emaila sk some questions, a decent seller will at least be communicative with you.

Retail is a rip off when it comes to Scotty gear, $400+ for most putters... check online golf shops in the US and then you will see why people can sell them cheaper on ebay than retail stores here.

One of the caveats of buying Scotties is that most knockoffs don't have the pitch repairer tool. That one does, so that is one tick in its favour.

The other option is to buy an older one that has been well used (and save $$$) then send it to Scotty's Custom Shop for refurbishment, which isn't all that expensive, considering.

$270 USD at Edwin Watts for a new Studio Style Newport 2.0... so that's about $300 AUD plus postage of about $40 AUD so still more than $100 cheaper than AUS retail.

plenty of decent scotty's come past this pro shops doors JB - buy your time and you'll get one for good price to try and if it isn't your thing you can off load it without losing a fortune.

The saying is "bide your time". Bide = endure. Bide one's time = wait for a favourable outcome.

Sorry, I can't help it...

Scotty Camerons are great putters, however it is important to get one that fits your eye. There is a reason why Tiger and heaps of other pros rely on them. Odyssey putters are also nice (and cheaper), however some people don't like the soft feel.

You are pretty safe buying on ebay, however always check the seller's feedback.

I have a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Oil Can on ebay at the moment. I also have a mint Newport 2 Studio Style that I was planning on listing next week. Let me know if you are interested in any of these putters.

Great putters 8)

I've had a couple now.

You can watch it in action as i drain putts from everywhere during our matchplay JB.

I'll bring a box of tissues for ya !

jaybam
13th March 2008, 07:40 PM
Dont like tissues so will bring my own hanky. Putting doesnt count for much either mate when its taken you four or five to get to the green in the first place :)

Get a Redwood Anser, much better putter!

jaybam
13th March 2008, 08:01 PM
Now Just if i wanted a redwood anser the thread would be titled that wouldnt it???? No really thanks for your opinion but a scotty is something i have wanted for a long time and if i was to buy anything else i would just be disapointed. The scottys resale is also pretty damn good for when i decide this one doesnt work either.

Or go the heavier head option of the mid sur and replace the belly shaft with a short one. I did that and love it.

Take advantage of the Strong dollar and grab one from US Ebay, just stick with sellers with good feedback.

3balls is very reliable.
