View Full Version : OZgolf Champs Eligibility

Guys

I have sent a PM out as below, to try to determine a fair eligibilty criteria for our upcoming Champs, as requested in the Champs thread.

I'm sending a PM to the "senior" members of the forum to obtain their opinion on what the eligibility criteria for the OZgolf Champs should be.

Could you please send me your answers to the following questions, as any ruling will set a precedence for future championships, whether you are participating in this year's or not.

1. Should the participant be a member of the OZgolf.net to be eligible to win the championship?
2. If so, should the participant have been a member for a specified period of time or a certain number of posts?
3. If so, how long or how many?
4. Any other suggestions?

From the 13 replies and my own opinion, I believe we should go with the criteria below:

To be eligible to win the Championship, the participant must be a contributing member of the forum.

The term "contributing" is intentionally vague as it would be something that would be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

However this brings up the question as to whether jarro should play or not. That is, does he actually contribute anything to the forum? :smt044

It generally means that the member should post now and then, and has or intends to take part in other Ozgolf days, with special considerations.

For Example, both Golfgirl and Kee have been unable to either post or take part in days due to personal circumstances, and they would not be excluded as a result. Other considerations may include those who are not located near other OZgolf members.

This does not mean that only members can participate in the day and win prizes. This criteria is for the title (and trophy (and bragging rights)) for the overall OZgolf Club Champion.

Several people mentioned that we don't want to discourage others from playing and joining our community, and I agree. So I would encourage anyone to play and be eligible for the prizes, if the yet-to-be-determined "comp" fee is paid.

Finally, another undertone of some of the replies was that it was all getting a little too serious. So let's just remember why we organise these rounds in the first place. To have a hit of golf with mates (with some sledging), and enjoy ourselves.

P.S I believe a secondary issue is the eligility of a pro and there are have been some grumblings about this, however I didn't address this in the eligibility questions that I asked. So I'm not sure how to tackle this one. If you want to remain anonymous in your thoughts on this, PM me your opinion and I will post it. :?

professional golfers compete in normal competitions all the time and play off a handicap and are allowed to win comps, have bets and so on. Why should we be different?

So I am not considered a senior member of this forum eh andyP?? :smt016
That makes for a nice change considering I am known as the "Old Fart" at work

As Vegas as said before "respect your elders" [-X

I sent a PM to most of the top 10 in joined date or number of posts, not top 10 of those who are the most decrepit.

Get over it.

Because we aren't a normal competition....

We are a group of mates (I think I can safely say that :? ) from a internet forum that decided to have a "World Championships" for bragging rights, to have a laugh and an excuse to play 36 holes of golf with a good group of mates. Doug (Most of us know who this was about), has not even registered onto Ozgolf.net, so why should he be eligible to win the Ozgolf.net World Championship's?

I have no issue what so ever with him playing. Taking home the trophy, that I have a problem with?

And lets face, who here wants to compete against a Pro, that as you say Blakey, has a worst round of even Par....

I have no problems with DougK playing in the Champs at all.

I DO have a problem with him competing for the trophy ..... for the reasons that are stated above.

Um, yeah. What Iain said sounds about right to me.

If noone has a problem with a pro playing, then we don't have a problem.

The above criteria (that is, not being a member) have already set out that he is not eligible for the trophy.

Let's play some golf.

Neednt worry yourselves too much, I know him well enough to go out on a limb and say he wouldnt even accept a trophy even if offered. In fact I reckon he might even donate something, as he as already done before.

At least the issue got ya's off your bums and sorted out some grey areas.

Shouldnt he at least be considered an honorary member? After all he drove all the way to Brisbane to give you lot a free lesson/clinic.

MTB,

Can he come on the forum and give us some tips? Then I wouldn't mind him playing for the trophy ...

just give doug a hcp of +3....that should level out the playing field...

and if one of you lot can't win it with doug playing at +3....I'm sure he'll hang around for a couple of mins to pass on some tips and advice...

I'd say so.

AndyP

I can't see why it would have changed. It probably only excludes a few of the mates that are playing.

You've given up on this one entirely.

It's discrimination! It's about having fun not the competition, dougk should be able to win as well as that hirsute fellow that plays on the PGA Tour.

AndyP
4th October 2011, 01:29 PM
Yep, it's about fun, and where is the fun in a non-member winning the cup and never being heard from again. Any major titles should go to someone who is part of our community, including the NAGA title.
