Ok, to following up what Amanda told me, the points I can get are the following:

Abatross = 4
Birdie = 3
Par = 2
Boogey = 1
oh sugar = 0

Now how those index thing work? In Logan GC, some hole make me 6 for par and some are 5.... why I don't get 2 extra shot for everyhole? :lol:

Can someone shed me some light. Thanks

Index is the same as difficulty rating. 1 is the hardest, 18 is the easiest. If you are a 12 hcap, you get a shot on each of the first 12 most difficult holes, and miss out on the 6 easiest. If you're a 27 hcap, you get a shot on every hole, plus you get 2 shots on the 9 hardest holes.

Hope this helps andy. :)

Andy, the index show how hard the holes rank, so index 1 is the hardest hole on the course and 18 is the easiest.

So because you play off 27, you get a shot on each hole, plus because you are a hcp that is 9 over 18, you get an additional shot on the 9 hardest holes.

So therefore you get 2 shots on index 1-9 and 1 shot on 10-18. So if you scored a par on the 18th at Logan (index 1, I think) you would write down 4 points, because it is like an eagle (2 under par), while if you scored a bogie on the index 18 hole (I can't think of it) you wouold write down the score of a par which is points.

Hope that explains clearly enough, if not just ask more questions. :wink:

A-Lo,

Best not to think of scoring as par/bogey/birdie etc.

As the others said, 18 holes on a golf course, ranked 1-18. Index 1 is the hardest, 18 is the easiest. Because you are a 27 handicap, it means there are 9 holes you get 2 extra shots.

If your handicap is equal to or greater than the index of a hole, you get an extra shot. For instance, i am a 17 handicap - therefore there is 1 hole i DO NOT get a shot - on my course it's a simple 95 metre par 3, and i have to get a 3 on it for my 2 points.

If you play a hole and the index says something like 4/22 - then you get two shots. Everyone handicap 4 and above gets a shot, and everyone with a handicap 22 and above get 2 shots. So if it's a par 4, it's now a par 6 for you.

You will get used to it.

well explained...but someone might want to clarify that you don't get 2 shots on a par3 (is that right???)

RPGC Index 1 hole is a par3...and everyone (inc the old trodders) get's 1 shot on it only...

Mau,

It depends on what the committee want to do. I have seen courses that allow 2 shots on a par 3.

In most cases, it is considered that a par 3 is a one shot hole & anyone can play one great shot. Quite often par 5's are rated 15/23 (or something similar) because a par 5 maybe easy to a low hcp golfer, but require 3 good shots in a row, which is difficult to a high hcp golfer.

Mau - many ladies get 2 shots on par 3s - but not 3 (for those on 45 handicaps).

It depends on how your index is done.

I've never heard that before..... :?: :?:

As if it is a long Par 3 (180-200m), they should get 2 shots. But a short one probably not, but it most likely wouldn't be rated in the hardest 9.....

happens at RPGC....so it's not uncommon...

I've seen courses where the holes that you would consider index 19 to 27 are not the same as holes indexed 1 to 9. In fact my course is like that I think, or at least it was.

Yeah, i've seen differences like that, for instance Index 1/20 holes...

Andylo, you will find on the card at logan (being a 27 hole course) that 1 to 9 is always the odd hardest holes, holes 9 to 18 are always even numbers and the holes 19 to 27 have both odds and evens on it :D

eg. if your playing 19 to 27 - 1 to 9 you use the even numbers on 19 to 27
if playing 10 to 18 - 19 to 27 you use the odd numbers on 19 to 27

Hope thats not to confusing :? :D

Hey, good explanations there guys.
If a beginner asks me to explain stableford scoring I pretend not to hear them.
