Anyone else watch this?
What a game, gripping finish. Wont say the result due to anyone wanting to watch it later.

Got on [the winners] going into the final quarter @ $3.85. The only way to make this game interesting is gambling.

If someone doesn't want to know the result, they are an idiot for clicking on this thread and reading it.

2nd time I have watched SBS this century, 25 minutes I watched and saw 10 minutes of game time I think ??

I found it interesting, but if you were dead keen you'd have to take the day off work to watch it all. I guess at least you have plenty of time for dunny breaks

Yea. It is the ultimate sport made for advertising. Just so they can squash an extra add or 2 in.

Only watch it towards the end of each year now. Went to the Pro bowl game once in Hawaii. It was a long day.

I went to the Australia Bowl in 1999. Was a long day but good to actually see them play, even if it was a trail game. Was more interesting meeting the cheerleaders and players the day before though.

Who was the half-time entertainment? I've found it's usually more interesting than the stuff on either side of half time. Any wardrobe malfunctions this year?

half-time entertainment was Tom Petty

I was at that game as well. It was OK, but I reckon gridiron is better on TV, with the million replays and endless number of things to talk about.

The Superbowl score is almost impossible to avoid, because it, and the celebrations in the winning town, are usually one of the lead items on the news.

I'm disappointed for the Patriots, as they probably deserved to go through the season undefeated. But it hasn't been done since 1972, which shows how difficult it is to do.

I actually like the sport itself and the concept behind it, I just don't like how it is played.

Would be an awesome game if there was just one team that performed all the tasks of a game, including defence, attack, punting etc.

Try playing it for a season or two Moe. The positions are too specialised to play both ways.

Too specialised? Run with head down into shit while holding the ball, or run with head down into the bloke holding the ball.

thats why I think it would be more interesting. No big oafs who die of a heart attack at 41, because they need to be multi-skilled and go both ways.

Also allows for more fatigue etc.

Rugby Union as an example, do you think it would be better if they walked off 8 players and 8 props came on just for each scrum? Then when there is a lineout, out come 7 giants and a specialist thrower? Being adaptable is what makes some of the other codes so much better.

The positions are specialised because they have been alllowed to become so.

There is still some crossover between corners and wideouts and the 'special teams' will have a mix of players.

The arms race of the game has reached the point where everything is specialist vs specialist and no weak links can be tolerated or covered. I doubt they can ever go back now.

Indeed. The level it is played here allows you to play both ways if you are fit, but offense and defense are totally different. The comparison with rugby is not valid Moe, totally different games.

Mind you 300 pound linemen that can run a 4 second standing forty is quite impressive.

The whole point is to find the weakness Bruce is talking about so it can be exploited. In the Superbowl, it was Tom Brady's wayward passing, bought about my his offensive lines inability to block the Giants linemen. He was sacked a number of times from 4 man rushes, and even a 3 man.

It's a sport where big fatties can earn six-figure sums (and more!). No wonder interest rates are rising.
