C'mon Andeepee, i thought you would've had a thread up about this before it even started

Just watching Ana Ivanovic playing Venus Williams at the moment .... i hope Ana wins 'cos she's prettier

Sharapova played an awesome match last night to knock defending champ Henin out :smt023

AndyP

Of course I am. I also went to the tournament on the Gold Coast again.
Why start a thread if there isn't going to be discussion?

I put some money on Sharapova to win the tournament at $7.50. She is now the outright favourite at about $1.80. :D

BTW jarro, Serena Williams was the defending Champ. Henin didn't play last year as she was giving her husband the flick.

Ok, thanks for that, i'll email the commentators on channel 7 and tell them of their mistake ..... they stated last night that she was the reigning champ.

BTW, Venus is marrying Hank Keuhne  .. i never thought his eyesight was that bad !!

AndyP

I don't remember them mentioning that, but they certainly crapped on about how she hadn't been beaten since July last year. If one did say that, then it was probably Sandy. He's past it.

Interesting opinion from Woodbridge re: the Sharapova grunt.

He virtually accused her of using it when she felt she was behind in the match ... using it to put off her opponents.

It's a bit hard to tell when they are dolled up, so without looking into it:
From left to right:
1st row: Kirilenko, Vaidasova, maybe Dementieva, Sharapova, Pennetta
2nd row: ?, ?, maybe Sprem, ?, Harkleroad
Or something like that.

Vaidisova! You got to be kidding me! She's no pig but she doesn't match up to Sharapova.

Personally, I'm a fan of Daniela Hantuchova.

goughy
23rd January 2008, 07:49 PM
Can't bear the grunting, regardless of male or female! I don't believe the whole 'hit with so much power they can't help it' thing. Plenty of tennis players hit it hard years ago. I'm sure plenty in the past hit it harder than sharipova does. Heck, she probably grunts on a drop shot!

Whats the correct answer for the second row, Jarro. I don't know them either, although I'd like to get to know some of them better.

Regarding the actual tennis, I think Sharapova is just about a certainty now the Williams sisters are out. They could both outpower her, but the others cannot.

As I write, the Fed is winning, but being stretched by Blake. Nevertheless, I think he'll have a mental edge over Djokovic and Nadal, and therefore win again.

The other point to make is that the new courts seem to a success. Nobody is whingeing about them, so they must be OK.

Hasn't anybody got something to say about Djokovic v Federer?

I was mightily impressed by Novac. The Fed has won these types of games almost every time after losing a tight first set, but Djokovic answered every challenge.

He's the new number 2, and beats everybody except the Fed, or Nadal on clay.

Tsonga looked great against Nadal, but he reminded me a lot of Bagdatis two years ago. Goes for everything, and looks great when he hits it, but I think Djokovic might be another step up in class.

AndyP
25th January 2008, 11:50 PM
I think Federer has done well to win 5 consecutive matches considering his current form.

There's no doubt that Djokovic is a gun though. His Slam record for the past 12 months shows how well he has been going.

Just watched half a set of Nadal. Sure, he's a great player, but have you ever seen a bloke reach around and pull his jocks out of his arse as many times in a game of tennis as this bloke does?

Absolutely. Today Tonight/Channel 7 sunk to a new low (if that's possible) with this attempted stunt . Imagine being confronted by a loopy father with media in tow on the eve of one of her biggest matches this year. I'm sure if Jelena wants to reconcile with the nut who happens to be her father, she doesn't need Kerry Stokes's parasites to do it.

Originally I had started to write a huge diatribe ciriticising particular key passages of commentary that were abismal.
