View Full Version : 350 tip shaft in 335 hosel

I've just acquired another driver 8) and I noticed it has a 350 tip shaft. It's a Taylormade R7 460 TP head so I'm sure the hosel size would be 335. I assume that the shaft tip has been shaved. Anyone have any experience with this? Does it weaken the shaft tip?

Never heard of it happening, but I would think it would have to weaken the tip (albeit ever-so-slightly). Sanding it down would reduce the wall thickness, hence weaken it.

.350 tip shafts are thicker, so sanding it is not unheard of. At your swingspeed it should be fine.

.350 in a .335 is definitely not recommended...

Jono I fitted this shaft and it has only had the very end {.5"} sanded down, nearly every TP I have reshafted I have had to fit a shim including my current Superquad TP,although they are supposed to be .335 they all seem to be very sloppy and thats why I tried this way,I used that driver for quite a while with out any problems.

Thanks for that Perci. I hit it OK at the range. I've just ordered couple of extra weights from US ebay. I'll see how it goes.

Did you buy this new or did you get it second hand?

This driver just might replace the Aurora.

Second hand Jono,a Touring Pro had it but it had an X flex in it,very solid feeling head that one.

I was just taking the Piss Jono,I didn't understand the relevance of how long he was using it for!

Tour pros with high clubhead speeds stress the face quite a bit. And they practice a lot and hit a lot of balls at the range. I've talked to a couple of hard hitting pros who say that the springiness of the face goes off after about 6 months of use.

Anyway, I was just curious. Thanks.
