Ozgolf Player of the Year 2008 (the Money List)

Player of the Year 2007 - BrisVegas
Player of the Year 2006 - Peter_RS
Player of the Year 2005 - BrisVegas
Player of the Year 2004 - Iain

http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/6955/28193757bz6.jpg

The winner will be declared the OZgolf Player of the Year and the holder of the Golden Club.

How it works

1. Prize money is based on the size of the round and a standard 18 hole round. You win $1000 for handing in a score, plus $1000 for every player you beat. Only Bona Fide Ozgolf.net registered members are eligible and counted for the prize pool. The event winner gets a 50% bonus. Nett scores only. $1000 for an NCR, if there is a valid reason, otherwise $0. AGU count used for ties of 1st.
eg. 4 in the field.
1st $6000 (4000+2000)
2nd $3000
3rd $2000
4th $1000

1a. Prize money for a mulitround event is awarded as method 1. for the total result and each round result gets 1/(number rounds) of the money set out in method 1.
eg for a 36 hole event, round 1 & round 2 get 1/2 the normal money and the total pass as normal.

2. An Ozgolf day is defined as an event that is posted to the 1st Tee forum with an open invitation for everybody to join in, and where typically one person handles all the bookings

3. Scores are taken from 1st tee forum at Ozgolf.net only. One person at each golf day needs to record the nett scores and the exact Ozgolf usernames. List scores in order. Scores must be clearly posted in first post.

4. No limit to number of games or course played. Minimum field for an Ozgolf day is 2 Ozgolf.net website members.

5. To be eligible for the Player of the Year award the Ozgolfer must have purchased an Ozgolf Shirt or made a donation to the Ozgolf website/community.

6. The year concludes with the Annual Ozgolf Championships or the 31st December whichever occurs first.

7. In the event of a Tie, a countback will apply, by counting the number of 1st places, If still a tie, 2nd places, and so on. If tie cannot be seperated a joint award will be made.

FAQ
Whats a Bona Fide Ozgolfer?
Someone that is (or will be) a regular contributor or someone that we all know and love.

Why do we have to use Ozgolf Nicknames, everyone knows who Jim, Pete , Dave and Mark is?
There is at least two Jim's two Petes, two Dave's and four Mark's, how hard do you wanna make it.

Any questions, arguements, suggestions? Fire away.

If you think a round is missing please have a look, if all the result are not in a 1st thread don't bitch

And what a start, 10 games already pete!

I wonder how many games you'd have to play to come last in every one and still win poty? Could be something to aim at.

I vote we change the money allocations to be similiar with the FedEx points....

So like this....

1: 4,500
2: 2,700
3: 1,700
4: 1,200
5: 1,000
10: 675
30: 170
70: 50

And of course you get more for the majors......

Moe Norman
4th January 2008, 08:10 PM
but then would a 1st in a 4 person event be the same as a 1st in a 12 person event?

if so, don't like that change at all.

Grunt
4th January 2008, 08:19 PM
Like it for the 2 person events ;)

BrisVegas
4th January 2008, 08:48 PM
too complicated. leave it as is. it's been working for 4 years now, love it or hate it.

AndyP
5th January 2008, 10:42 AM
I think it's too late to change anyway.

Has anyone that's won it in the past not deserved to win it (besides your fiance)?
What are we trying to achieve by changing it?

markTHEblake

I vote we change the money allocations to be similiar with the FedEx points....

Its a great idea, the current system is flawed for large fields. in a 40 person event 10th gets almost as much as 2nd/

I spent hours trying to work out a spread like the Pro's use but failed. its too hard for a manual process.

If you can find someone to write a formula that will allocate the money accordingly to the size of the field and then program a system to calculate the allocation then go for it. :smt023

OK it all locked in we are using the same method for this year at least..

updated to include all states, and include some basic stats.

Stupid work firewall is blocking the image ....

poidda
14th January 2008, 02:12 PM
One stat that would be interesting is the "Average Field Size". At present the "Average Pos" means nothing. Having an Average Pos of 2 could mean an average of runnerup, or an average of last. Having an average of 2/2 is much different than 2/20. (Average Pos/Average Field Size"

Just a thought.

peter_rs
14th January 2008, 02:17 PM
sorry poidda upload the wrong image, its there now.

Pete, are you talking about the "Average Field Size" for the everyone? I was actually talking about an average field size for each person, just like you've got "Average Pos".

miro
14th January 2008, 02:40 PM
Peters

Now firstly thanks for doing this BUT am I missing something. You and the missus seem to have played a great deal of rounds so early in the year. I would ask two questions:

1. Am I to assume many of your rounds were just the two of you -is that really in the spirit of this competition. Surely this rule needs to be looked at.

2. Were all 11 of your rounds complying? "2. An Ozgolf day is defined as an event that is posted to the 1st Tee forum with an open invitation for everybody to join in"

Rusty
14th January 2008, 03:54 PM
remember POTY starts from first day after annual champs or 31st Dec, whichever is earlier.

miro
14th January 2008, 04:28 PM
Ah that would be the missing link in my knowledge then. I was assuming 31 Dec.

Have you tried whinging non-stop? Worked for the Most Improved.

shazza_rs
14th January 2008, 05:36 PM
Miro to answer your questions.....

1. No we don't count games that are played between ourselves....
2. Yes all of our games complied to the "rules". We played a lot of golf in our break between the champs and going back to work after christmas.

If we wanted to so badly win POTY we would list all our games in the 1st tee section.... but what would be the point??

shazza_rs

Pete, in the older versions you could dramatically reduce the filesize by hiding all the blank columns/ rows outside the tables etc. I haven't tried it for a while so don't know if it works with the newer versions.

AndyP
15th April 2008, 02:49 PM
From briefly looking at the attachment, I think have spotted two errors.

BrisWesty is the only one to have $6000 from the Matchplay. Why?
36 hole events, particularly the SC Easter Open, are not meant to be split up into individual rounds. It should be double money for overall result.

Grunt
15th April 2008, 02:53 PM
Pete, missed a few I played in too, I played at both the rounds that Trung & Chopper played their matchplay, Carnarvon & Beverley Park.

AP

by the draw (http://www.ozgolf.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=935&d=1207530272) Westy is the only one in the 3rd round so far.

Does the SC not run seperate comps each day? What happens if a person only plays one day of a 36 hole event?

grunt sorry my bad fix the Beverley Park, but there is no score for you in the matchplay thread (http://www.ozgolf.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9136&highlight=Carnarvon) and there was no 1st thread for there carnarvon match (http://www.ozgolf.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9136&highlight=Carnarvon).

Grunt
15th April 2008, 03:13 PM
No worries.
Just to clear it up then. For POTY you have to post 2 entries for the one event. One in the Matchplay thread and one in 1st tee.

Is that correct, only asking so everyone knows the correct way to do it and make it easier for you Pete

peter_rs
15th April 2008, 03:15 PM
Then he should have $8k.

It's a 36 hole event, not two 18 hole days. The option to play one day only wasn't available.

Just double checked the 07 potty I see what you have done fixed.

So I will make SC a 36 hole at your request, but toowoomba allows you to play one day so it would stay 2x18 rounds?

peter_rs
15th April 2008, 03:18 PM

So I will make SC a 36 hole at your request, but toowoomba allows you to play one day so it would stay 2x18 rounds?Yep. The Woodford Open is a 36 holer, as well as the Champs. I can't think of any others though.

peter_rs
15th April 2008, 03:31 PM
so to clear this up ap.

so does toowoomba count as 2x18 and a 36 event (it runs all 3 comps), or if all the same players play both days is it one 36?

AndyP
15th April 2008, 03:36 PM
In the thread, Shaz listed the scores as two separate days, so I would have assumed 2x18.

peter_rs
15th April 2008, 03:51 PM
so did you but then you added a total. ;)

AndyP
15th April 2008, 03:57 PM
Ummm, yeah, nah, sure. The whole point of the comp was a 36 hole result. I don't know about Middle Ridge. Why don't you make a judgment call?

markTHEblake
15th April 2008, 06:41 PM
36 hole events were always counted as one event - double money. i cant remember if anyone ever only played one day, i'd say tough. :-)

07 year 157 post up to 23/10/07 total 264
08 year 99 post up to 20/10/08 total ?

As Eag's said there has not been alot of the smaller events eg Nambour, Carbrook, Beerwah. Maybe the economy has hit oz golf ;)

Ok guys I updated the table last night with all games to date

Its rustys to lose at this stage as he is still in matchplay, he has the solid game to take it all to.

If he gets done by shavey the Champs will be interesting with five being within easy range, Including possibly the first lady potty champ.

At this stage there will be a max of 102K of money up at the champs.... so in theory even Grunt is a chance ;)

And just a note- if you think a round is missing look in the xls file if its not listed, check for results in 1 st tee. If you don't post to bad

thanks to all involved in ozgolf over the year - both playing and organising. i get such enjoyment out of going to different courses and playing, especially in annual course comps, rather than playing the same course week in week out, that's it's great to be able to go and do this with others that i know. it makes it so much more enjoyable. there's so many welcoming, friendly people in ozgolf (especially when they can't keep their internet persona away from a keyboard :D ), that even getting the chance to play for a "Player of the Year title" is just an added bonus. cheers :smt038

(and may everyone only ever take up lawn bowls as a definite, last resort).
