Just got home from playing 9 holes on the south course at Nudgee.

Just behind the 13th green there are plovers nesting and bloody hell, you can't get within 50 meters of the nest without these mongrel things going nutso on you  I had 4 of them bombing me at the same time :!:

Does anyone else have any trouble with Plovers, Maggies at the moment.. or are we the only lucky ones

I would've liked to have seen that. Would have been a good laugh.

No plovers at Nambour last time I was there.

Last Monday we had similar fun at Casino - on the 8th and 18th a single, cranky bastard of a magpie is patrolling. These fairways are about 60 metres apart too!

Down the 8th the aunt-in-law puts up her umbrella. It's a fine day, about 9:30am and temp would have been about 25 - i was confused until i saw the little crazed thing eyeing us, and eventually having a crack. The umbrella did the trick and after a couple of uneventful swooshes it retired back to a limb on the tree.

Cranky bugger watched kept an eye on us though - you could almost hear him (her?) saying "Go on.. keep going... tell your story walking...."

Yeah it would have looked quite funny to anyone that was watching.... me running around with my bright yellow Hi-Vis work shirt on.. getting attacked by these wildy squarking bastards of birds

Sneaky little buggers too, you turn away to watch one and another swoops on ya from behind ... not fair i say :x

You must've had a hat on hey Jarro, cause I would've thought the glare from your bald noggin would've scared 'em off...... :smt016

This is a no brainer :D

Get your playing partners to walk towards the nest, as you take your shot 8)

Then you do the same for them  :D

AND if you're playing golf by yourself  go and find some friends

I have a rogue magpie that attacks me whenever I walk home. Just recently, it flew from the top of a 400m valley just to come down and see if it could crack some skull. You don't even need to be near its nest, it takes no prisoners!

Kind regards,

Ben (Ducky).

Heaps of magpies were at Gattonbut havent seen any around the gold coast.

Mind you they only attack other golfers in my group, they seem to always leave me alone?

While I was taking a shot on Sunday a bird actually hit me in the side of the head - it was coming from behind and all I felt was a huge thud and then I hit the ball and screamed. Needless to say my playing partners were in stitches from laughing :?

If I had a choice I'd pick the plovers over the magpies - at least they let you know they are gonna get you - not like the silent but deadly bastard magpies.

Played at Bexley once, was walking up the par 3, 5th hole.
From no where, got attacked from behind. I checked the wound, there was blood on the back of my head & cap
