What are you talking about? :?

I've got 4 to give away too.

gmail is about 1000 times better than hotmail or any other web mail provider. The future is now. And all that.

Why do we need an invite?

Bruce
8th October 2004, 01:13 PM
It's to manage an organic growth process. Rather than just having open slather on opening they gave out invites to a set of early adopters (blogger.com users especially). After a certain amount of use these users get 6 invites to send out. Once these are taken up those users get 6 invites of their own and the original user gets another 6 invites.

It was just to slow the ramp up on their servers so they can monitor it and respond to demand better.

gmail is a prolly a better webmail service, but I really like the fact that with hotmail I can instantly know whenever an email arrives, thanks to msn

So can Gmail, and wont be long before we have Gchat and Ganything.

People desire to get a Gmail account early is to get a better name before they all get used up.

There is a gmail notifier for the google toolbar available as well as an extension for firefox.

I'm not sure of any IM client notifiers for it though as I think AIM and MSN are the tool of the devil

I couldn't live without my IM system at wrok though.

what's so damn good about this bloody Gmail anyway ????

connico

way to bring up a dead thread...

and its good because we all say so, you get like 2gigs worth of space and it actualy grows slowly. So you never actually have to delete emails.

2. junk mail filter is impressive, it filters all the bad things out, not all but most, 95% for me right now.

3. the email system is really sweet..why?? because emails that are concurrent, ie to the same people are displayed as a conversation...so you can have multiple emails as one entry, thus enabling you to review your entire "convo".

4. gmail has got googletalk or something like that..

Courty

For me, it's the fact that it's free, and does mail diversion. So if I change my ISP, I don't have to bugger around telling everyone I have a new POP mail address. I just re-divert my Gmail to the new address.

Jarro

And labelling emails is better than using folders.

I revived my gmail account last night, looks like it was initially set up 2 years ago. I don't think i've used any invites either. If anyone wants one, let me know.

Fishman Dan

Chappy - i sent you an invite. I guess it's the correct thing... mind said i had 99 invites remaining.. now 98.

So, anyone else?

AndyP
20th July 2006, 10:55 AM
The invite thing is a bit of a gimmick to make it seem more exclusive than what it really is. It was a bit more limited initially.

Fishman Dan
20th July 2006, 11:01 AM
The interface is really clunky.. very hard to navigate. The news stories pi$$ed me off, ended up turning it off. The news interface is crap, better looking at the Sydney Morning Herald website.

Other than that.. it's......... ok i guess. It will be a handy e-mail address to use when we're travelling next month.

A new Google feature:

http://spreadsheets.google.com

Only just looking into now - it appears that you can share it with as many people as you like and divide those between edit and view access.

Could be a good way of keeping track of scores etc that everyone can see.

AndyP
15th August 2006, 10:49 AM
I just saw that Bruce, looks pretty good data wise. Won't show the charts though.

Courty
15th August 2006, 10:54 AM
Looks good, Bruce. I'll test out moving the Vardon s/sheet there later on.

Bruce
15th August 2006, 11:02 AM
What I see from it is the ability to take some of the score recording load off our fabulous volunteers and get it back on the users.

I would think that one could export the data easily to pretty up with charts and analysis stuff.
