Played Nudgee pro am today and I had a look in just about 80% of the pro bags around the puttin green - I have a few facts to note:

Irons
Lots of TM Rac MBs followed by a lot of Titleist irons - mainly 690s and 690 CBs - surprisingly there was a lot of Tourstage irons - saw a few Ping sets - I3s no S59 sets - also quite a few Cally Sets - basically TM and Titleits were by far the most popular irons - followed by Tourstage, Cally and then Ping - a couple of Srixon sets and some mizuno.

Drivers
9/10 bags had a TM driver of some sort - lots of 580XD TPs, 510TPs - not many R7s - second was Titleist - third was Callaway and probably Cleveland not far behind- there were a few Mizuno MP001s and I did see one G2 Ping Driver with a steel shaft!!!

Putters
The 2 Ball putter is still the most used putter by far saw heaps of Monzas - no Mezzas - lots of scotty camerons.

The pro we played with - Andrew Buschin??? something like that was a real nice guy - he shot 69 (he had a 5 in a par 3 - 11th Hole). Andrew was sponsored by tourstage and had a set of Z101s -sweeeet and three Tourstage Wedges - his driver was a TM 580XD TP given to him at the Open last year (two off - lucky bastard). He had a 14* Rescue Tour and a TM centre shafted Montana putter.

He said that he was going to get a new set from Tourstage but did not know what?? We had a long drive battle all day - and we were neck and neck all day long -

For the record I only had one wedge in the bag - 60* - which made all approach shots between 60-100m very difficult and I dearly paid for that as I had numerous second shots in that range  Anyway had 34 points with 3 washes and 3 one pointers - I have no consistency

Anyway enough ranting!!!

Oh Yeah - forgot to say that the greens at Nudgee are awesome at the moment - real slick!!! The pins today were is also in some real funky spots!!!!

Good stuff, good to read.

Weren't tempted to slip a banana into any of these bags?

I was tempted to do a lot of things - it is surprising that equipment companies sponsor so many of these guys -by that I mean guys that are struggling day in and day out in the pro am circuit and the troppo tour!

One thing I did notice was the lack of NVs and Blues - to my surprise there was crap load of bloody Graffalloy Prolite - burgundy Shaft!!

Go figure.

I figure it doesn't cost them much really. I mean the gear they give them probably costs the company next to nothing. And if they ever do make it big then they might be more likely to stick with the brands that sponsored them when they were nobodies.

Thanks Iain - couldn't have said it better myself - there were a shit load of these shafts - and I didn't say they were crap.

By the way Iain how did the 540 DF go - the 510 TP Tour cracked the 300m barrier twice today one was a 315m drive as measured by the pro(both drives with wind behind me)

No go, I'm afraid, looked big, felt big, didn't like it at all sorry buddy.... And I actually liked the feel of the R7 tp better

But since it sounds like you liked the tp, I'm sure we can arrange something!!!

It's ok mate, if you do want it, there's no rush mate, just hold onto it and pay when you can, as long it doesn't take as long as 990b Luva.....

So the shaft was ok?? Not too soft? :?:

Shaft was spot on - surprisingly enough - although If I was to "buy it" I would swap it with the Fuji Tourspec 757 I have.

Let me think about it - if I can get rid of the 540 DF I will buy it.

PM me with your "mates rates" price.

I removed the Prolite 35s from the second hand 975D I bought becasue it played like a tour X-stiff (almost 280cpm at 44.5 in). Far too stiff for my girly swing.

I thought the prolite 35 was great in my TM300 a year or so ago, great feeling and good distance...it has a lot of use on the PGA tour. So does the YS6 for that matter...Funk, Kite and heaps of others as well as Ryan Moore the US amateur champ who has it in his driver and 3 wood...whatever works ;)

Well, there you go. :) I'm a fan of the prolite 35S, just personally. I had two drivers with them (a Biggest Big Bertha  and a 975D) a few years back and had no problems. Actually, I liked it so much that I reshafted the 975D with one when it cracked.

I think one of the problems with the prolite 35S is that they are a high kickpoint, low ball flight design. That can make them tend to feel too stiff for some. I probably just compensated by teeing the ball up on big tees and launching it. Sure was better than the stock shaft that came in my BBB  For me, I was most impressed with the tighter shot dispersion versus the OEM crap.

Thank goodness for shafts like the Blue, NV, Speeder etc, that get the ball up in the air and go straight!

I remember when I first played a pro am years ago, I spent most of my time before tee off looking at what was in all the pro's bags with drool running down my face.

Now thanks to the time spent with you guys, I look at the pro's bags and think 'man, that is so last year'. How attitudes change.

Me and my 300/Prolite combo have made up. I was dead-set smashing the thing on Monday in Casino.. ask the cops who had to do a drive-thru the high school when i sent one left off the 10th tee

Mind you, i don't have the wealth of knowledge you lot have about shafts

Ahhhh the 10th tee next to my old school :P During Wednesday afternoon sport we used to tee up at least three balls on that tee. See who could put one through the woodwork room windows  They had to put bars on the windows because of a few of my more accurate friends

I know a couple of pro's whom are sponsored by TM and Titleist, they are given the clubs they want to use, built too their spec's, but they do not "own" them as such. They can't sell them or give them away to mates etc, if they want to upgrade or don't want them any more, they have to return them to TM and Titleist.

I think this would be the case with many of the pro's on the troppo tour.
