G'day all

New user here, just saying Hi.

Can't really tell you too much golf related, I played in the school comps and in metro junior comps when I was at school. (mainly to get out of class). Shortly after I finished school, my clubs were stolen out of my brothers car. As I was working as an apprentice I couldn't afford a new set.

Fast forward 10 years and I have played 4 games in that time, 2 in the last 2 months, and I now have the bug back to belt a little white ball 6 km (usually the hard way) and pay for the right to do so.

Handicap wise I have only had a social club handicap not an AGU, I'm keen to join a club and play more often, possibly have a crack at some long drive comps.

I'm Currently looking for a set of club to replace the old ones (or the Top flite clubs I borrow)

Cheers
Simon

Yeah I've been lurking around for a few weeks, and been out at the driving range a few times a week getting some tempo back, before I go get a back to basics lesson to get things back on track.

I'm looking forward to my next game thou. ( I'm sure that will dissapear about the 3rd hole :P)

Favorite user??? Gee I hardly know any of you...

Most of what I've been looking at is the Equip Me section trying to pick up on the latest and greatest in gear. So much has changed in 10 years, so most users post have been a pretty fair in comments which is good, but I haven't yet got into the more casual sections where all the banter goes on.

I'm a forum user (and Moderator) on several car forums so I recognise that these forums are a nice group (ie facts and figures where needed, fun and hi-jinx else where, and a nice social factor)

Users that stand out (mainly due to sigs or avatars) would be Scarfie1 (John Daly Avatar) and markTHEblake (with the long drive 2006 sig, Which is like a challenge to me...) But I'm sure I'll get to know you as time goes on.

Who's the biggest wanker then?

Blakey should get rid of that sig. It's past it's use-by date, and was never OZgolf approved.

I'll have to go look but there were several threads with arguments over nothing happening, same 2 users, My gut feeling is the two involved should just bone and get on with it.

The fun of long drives is that you have to hit the fairway! I almost picked up one of them this year. That would have been quite funny!! And MTB and I are probably similar in length off the tee!

hi Simon, welcome aboard. Please tell me you're not on a Lamborghini forum? If so, can you please explain to miro that a Boxster isn't a "supercar".

Lambolica

No, Not on Lamborghini forums (yet, one day maybe) Mainly Toyota (Celica) forums.

But suffice to say that Boxsters are VW bugs with a Porsche Body kit and a Porsche price tag.

Lambolica
28th November 2007, 08:57 AM
Why do you think they are called Echos?

Actually thay should be pretty good, do you know where the rattle is from? (top of window when closed, in the door when open etc?)

Inside the door, I can push on the window and it still rattles, but not consistently.

I took it back when I first got it and I think they just foamed it... 2 years on and it only does it every now and again.

Sounds like a bolt is loose or one of the guides is worn, or somthing random in the door is loose. a few hours and the ability to pull the door trim off could solve it if it really gets on your nerves.

Welcome anyway and enjoy the golf!

I haven't got time to fix my own cars let alone anyone elses. If you want to hear door rattles, drive a 30 yr old Celica for a week. thou I wouldn't own any other car without it being in the Garage.

Now.... Back to golf, when buying clubs, is purchasing through a gold shop (Golf-Mart etc) the way to go or are there other options? I'm tossing up building up a set of clubs over the next few months, or just getting a full set now and modifiying the contents later.

Too many bloody options mate!! run now or be lost forever in the cyclic quest for the 'answer' (which doesn't exist!)

Pretty easy to save money and avoid the golf stores if you buy on here....

Lambolica
28th November 2007, 01:28 PM
I've been to several golf stores around hitting both drivers and Irons, My pick of Irons is currently Tour Edge EX-1's this is after comparing them to other irons (Taylormade R7 & R7 Draw, Several Mizunos, Callaways, Pings)

The EX-1's have the best club feel and whilst not as forgiving as others will probably grow with me as I get my game back. But I haven't seen any for sale on here.

Drivers have changed alot, I'm trying to come to grips with having a dinner plate bolted to the end of my shaft, But haven't settled on any driver yet. (none that I have hit go over the 300 yard mark on the swing computers either :P )

Go to as many demo days as you can. they're usually on at driving ranges fairly regularly. Try as much as you can first. If you know what you're after then check out ebay for bagains. Otherwise try a local clubfitter and have something made up to suit you.

Yeah don't ever pay retail. You'll pay double what you will online, even for new gear.

Do what Brisvegas suggested and go to a demo day and try heaps until you find something you like, that'l save you hoeing through about 7 drivers, 3 irons sets and 10 putters. Then if no-one on here has what you want head to ebay. Then TGW, edwinwatts or golfsmith as a last resort

Lambolica
28th November 2007, 07:34 PM
Yes, Hense asking the question. I've seen the difference in prices between there and some pro shops. But I'm happy to spend nearly an hour hitting different clubs on their laser swing machine Slowly nutting out what the club head is doing at impact. (and breaking their drivers)

With Buying off Ebay, are they many rippoff clubs on there?

Its the origonal 2 litre twin cam, and turns around 100rwkw in race trim.
Bitch to drive to golf though.

I've settled on Tour edge Exotics so I'm on the look out for a good condition set of EX-1 Irons and Woods. I'll be sniffing around ebay and the for sales here.

I don't think they came out with the twin cam in Australia. Looking at that pic, I think your's is an import. The aus Celicas didn't have the Rubber ended bumpers.

Lambolica
29th November 2007, 01:56 PM
Yeah Mine is the JDM RA28 GT, 1 of only 2 (that I know of) in Australia. The twin cam is factory for the GT. The fugly bumpers are part of the charm.

Now that kinda attitude will make you no friends whatsoever!!

Last I looked a Bug didn't pack a 0-100 time of 5.5 odd seconds.

And Bris -jealousy is a curse. Next time I will buy a 911 (997) and carry the clubs in the passenger seat. ;)
