Stumps day one - go Clarky, what a good day, without being great, debutant Clarke sitting on 76 overnight, Gilchrist 35, Australia 5 for 316 8) . Katich an excellent 81.

Some rusty shots were played by a few, Lehman and Langer in particular, otherwise a pretty solid days cricket.

Handy start. Let hope they go on with it and don't have to bat on the 4 or 5 day mine field.

Terry.

yeah i watched pretty much all of it on good ole Foxtel :D

Hayden looked in good touch until he had a brainfart and tried sweeping a ball that was turning wayyyyy too much

Good to see the young guys (Katich and Clarke) get amongst the runs early (not from the vindaloo either) That Clarke is gonna be something special when he grows up... he's just a kid :o

Can't wait to see Warney get a crack at the rag-heads on that wicket... should be able to get those 5 wickets and get past the chucker to regain the top spot on the wicket takers list 8)

I've said it before, and i'll say it again - Michael Clarke is the Future of Australian Cricket.

Katich is hardly a young guy, but his innings should keep the selectors off his back for a little while.

Good to see Clarke starting his test career in style.

If he can take 3 spinners on a dry and dusty wicket, i am sure he can withstand being touted as the saviour of Ricky Ponting's (future) mess.

Yeah, get that useless Clarke off strike (yesterdays news), so Gilly can go-a-tonking.

gilly seemed restrained earlier. Like he was waiting for clarke to hit the ton.

That's what the radio commentators said. He settled down so he could guide Clarke to his century.

good first dig by the Aussies - 474.

Mighty fine 151 from Fishy's new pin-up boy Clarke.. he'll be around for ages i'd think after that knock.

In reply, the curry-munchers are in trouble at 2/4 ... McGrath with the breakthrough 8) :D

But who are they going to drop when Punter comes back?? I think he'll be out then again, but it'll do him good being on the tour.

What about next series :?: , I think Lehman is the oldest, but surely they couldn't shaft him again.... :?

Good to see McGrath back in some form. 8)

Indians at 6/150 at stumps.

Do we make them follow-on, if they don't reach 275? Or bat again and make some more runs before declaring, keeping in mind that batting last could be a nightmare?

Drop Martyn. I don't care how many bloody runs he makes. Get rid of him.
Katich probably would have been the one to be dropped for Clarke, if he didn't make a few runs himself.

Gilly and the whole of Australia was happy that we weren't batting last on the "dry creek bed", they would be bloody stupid to make them follow on, I reckon you could break an ankle in one of those cracks by day 4.....

Get a quick 300 and then beat them into submission, no sniff, no chance !!!!

Drop Martyn !!!, you are kidding !!!!
:P :P :P

enforce the follow on???
you gotta be !@#$ing kidding...

remember what bloody happen the last time that happened???
2 guys posted over 300+ runs off their own bat....

Fishman Dan
8th October 2004, 10:02 AM
It's not a pitch you want to bat last on either.

The ball that got rid of Laxman was a ripper, quicker and bit hard. Mind you, very un-Laxman to play down the wrong line like that - he missed it by 2 feet!

Jarro
10th October 2004, 04:16 PM
looks like we have the first test in the bag .... curry-munchers are 8 for .... only a matter of time before Warney (hopefully) cleans the tail up 8)

Clarke has to stay in the side.. he's in too good form to drop.

I'd say Boof is the one most likely to get the arse.

McMw
10th October 2004, 04:29 PM
good call for lehman to make way for ponting...

don't see how his fitness can hold up in that humidity...

Jarro
10th October 2004, 04:46 PM
plus i've heard that Lehman has said that he'd stand down rather than take the spot away from some young fella that's in form.

sounds to me like he's seen the writting on the wall

lucky for Martyn

McMw
10th October 2004, 11:31 PM
wow....how much of a high can Clarke be at the moment???
Century (on debut???), and a MOM to boot....

oh well...the higher he is, the harder the landing...

AndyP

I have the feeling that Clarke will be left out, as he was only filling in.

Ask Martin Love if it makes any difference playing well while filling in.
