View Full Version : Champs Form Appraisal

I thought a thread on how you think your game is going leading up to the Champs would be interesting. So let's see some honest form appraisals.

-------------

Off the Tee: I couldn't be happier really, the driver is going really well albeit a little short. I'm hitting a lot of fairways, and if I miss I'm usually not in too much trouble.

Iron Play: This is always the most inconsistent part of my game, and when they are on, I can shoot low scores. If they're not, but are getting me to greens surrounds (and missing trouble), I can still play to around handicap. The irons were on a month ago, and they are a bit off right now. Miss management has been pretty good lately using my course plans though.

Short Game: I don't mind chipping and putting, and this area of my game seems to be going along quite nicely and doesn't give me any concerns. I don't think KV's greens will be to my liking though. I prefer them slower, so I can ram them into the back of the cup, but I think I've improved recently on faster greens.

Kooralbyn Scores: 9/8/07 - 103/92, 22/3/07 - 87/77. The first round wasn't as bad as the score shows. I threw it away. Both are off the black markers too.

Overall: Obviously my form isn't too bad after shooting my best score and reaching a handicap low in the last month. I think I've been playing thereabouts to my handicap since then, but my concern is that I've been taking about 5 holes to get going when I haven't had a warmup hit, and it's hurting my scores. I've been playing smart and the rhythm is good, so I'd like it to continue.

Off the Tee: Can't find a fairway.

Iron Play: Slapping everything out the toe.

Short Game: Doesn't matter if I chip well becasue I can't sink anything over 3 feet.

Kooralbyn Scores: Last round was about 6-7 years ago (probably mid 80's)

Overall: Looking forward to the drinking and socialising.

Anyone want to back me??

Someone mentioned your name yesterday, but your golflink record isn't looking too friendly.

Off the Tee: Not as long as in years gone by, but mostly straight.

Iron Play: not too bad. have had a couple of short iron shanks of late, but generally the ball is going where i'm aiming.

Short Game: chipping is average at best. i don't practice so can't expect too much. Putting was good at Windaroo 2 weeks ago, but sucked in Sydney last week. Hopefully KV greens are slow and flat!

Kooralbyn Scores: Played it 2-3 times 10 years ago. Have never played to hcap there from memory. Going in cold.

Overall: I've drifted out from 5 to 8 this year with the arrival of bub #2 and am a little frustrated by a lack of touch. When I get into the zone, I can still hit the ball as good as ever. Generally I have been making too many soft bogeys to post decent scores. My typical round for the past 6 months is low-80's with flashes of brilliance and some shockers thrown in. I'd love to shoot a pair of 80's at KV, but realistically can't expect that good a result....

Off the Tee: Can usually count for 1 to 2 fairway hit in a round. Misses are high right, so I am hoping there aren't too many OOB on the right handside.

Iron Play: Usually don't know where the ball is going to finish up, either pull to the left and slice to the right.

Short Game: Pretty poor distance with the SW. Can't the hit LW at all, shank to the right most of the time.

Putting: Can count for 2 to 3 3-putt most rounds.

Kooralbyn: Never play there before, so it will cost me at least 4 to 5 shots on sat.

Off the Tee: Duck Hook

Iron Play: 8 iron up, great, anything less than an 8 iron, rank duck hooks.

Short Game: dunno, i either hit the green or am in the mulga. Putting has very streaky, between shocking and ok.

Kooralbyn Scores: nett scores 76-85

Overall: Playing Ok as long as i am hitting short irons in, but isnt that everyone?

Bruce
12th November 2007, 02:13 PM
Off the Tee: Fighting a hook - usually takes me half a dozen shots to work out wtf is going on.

Iron Play: The best part of my game. Might be considered adequate.

Short Game: If the confidence is up it is merely bad. If I'm struggling it is disastrous. Putting aspires to mediocrity and I can't remember the last putt I sunk that was more than 6 feet.

Kooralbyn Scores: To quote Vyvian, I am a sissy virgin.

Overall: It better be fun - it won't be good.

Off the Tee: Anywhere. KV will be playing long if its 3 iron from the tee. last 4 rounds have been crap 9,5,4,1 balls OB or wet from the tee. If theirs trouble I will be there.

Iron Play: starting to hit some mint irons. but still have a couple of bad swings a round.

Short Game: very streaky, or is that knifie.

Kooralbyn Scores: nett scores 80+ I think :(

Overall: Playing crap 4-5 birdie putts a round 1 in the last 4 rounds. avg 6 pars a round. and alot of big numbers. But hey its stab so anything could happen. I been know to shot 36 points with 6 washes.

Yes..if you match me drink for drink on Sat night.

are you buying? I can't afford to drink that much.

12th November 2007, 02:43 PM
Off the Tee: Who knows where it will go?

Irons: Not too bad, misses are now to the left

Short Game: been pretty good lately, the good games have been saved by the up & downs and sand saves.

KV: Never played it!

Overall: Have to say I am never sure, can go from playing like a pro to like a full on new starter in a matter of seconds. Could be 40 points with a wipe or 2. But then again could be 20 points with only 4 scoring holes.

OFF THE TEE : 50% left, 50% right

IRON PLAY : getting better, ballstriking has improved a lot

SHORT GAME : pretty handy, gets me out of a lot of bad situations more often than not

PUTTING : On good greens, pretty sound. On crappy greens, pretty crappy. On KV's greens, ??????

KOORALBYN SCORES : Not good ... haven't been in the nett 70's yet

Courty
12th November 2007, 05:01 PM
Off the Tee: Surprisingly enough, this has been the most consistent part of my game lately. Must be that shiny new driver. 8)

Iron Play: This is my biggest letdown at the moment. I've been missing far too many greens from good positions. It's extremely frustrating, but I'm staying positive as I feel as though my swing is turning the corner.

Short Game: When I make the right club/ shot selection, it can be deadly. I just need to focus on concentrating.

Kooralbyn Scores: :-#

Overall: With the exception of the (very) occasional blinder, my game has been skipping backwards ever since winning the 2005 MIP. However I feel as though I'm starting to plateau into some consistency. But then, I may just be imagining things. :???:

Off the Tee: New drivers working a treat! Haven't found so many fairways for a long time.

Iron Play: Solid. Hitting a lot of greens.

Short Game: Anything longer than 15 feet and I have no idea with the putter. Last 3 games have seen me have 36+ putts.

Kooralbyn Scores: Where's Kooralbyn?

Overall: If I putt well (or even average) I should score well. If I have half a dozen 3-putts on the front, than I'm on the p1ss!

Moe Norman
12th November 2007, 05:20 PM
I'm not attending, but will appraise me form anyway.

Off the tee: Slowly improving and getting used to new driver, much more forgiving, but not as long as the 510. Perci cut it down for me last week to match the length of my old driver, hopefully this improves my accuracy.

Iron Play: No problems here as usual, but would like to start hitting it a bit closer from inside about 130

Short Game: It's now at an all-time low. Putting poorly and chipping is remarkably bad. Knifing 3+ a game and also knifing 40-80m pitch shots regularly. If I don't knife it, I'm hitting it fat. There is NO middle ground.

Overall: Been consistently shooting mid 80's for a while now, despite hitting it pretty well. If I could just get my short game to 'mediocre' I'd easily play to my hcp most weeks. Current assessment of short game is 'retarded blind man with one arm'

OFF THE TEE : All over the shop at the moment :smt087

IRON PLAY : Starting to get used to the new irons and the miss hits are a lot more forgiving.

SHORT GAME : Big improvement on this time last year, so much more confident around the greens, still shit at bunker play.

PUTTING : Can have 28 or 38 putts a round very hot and cold.

KOORALBYN SCORES : Ugly

My general form allows for lots of hilarity within my group! Call me the jester. I can do everything well and everything bad at the same time.

Driving is wayward. Been trying to play it safe and ease off a bit, but all that happens is I end up going just as much left and right but shorter. So I blaze now.

Short game and putting is but for to laugh. Anything can happen. I'll chip in the difficult one and leave the easy one short of the green.

My iron play has always been my strength but over the last year it has left the building. But what could I expect.

My strength is from the trees. I can bend it left and right, high and low. Comes from lots of practice. Doesn't buy me anything but can look cool once in a while!

shazza_rs
12th November 2007, 07:11 PM
Off the Tee: Mostly straight to a fade.... sometimes i'm really good and pull it straight left (usually after i have had a miss way to the right)
Iron Play: meh.... good and bad... misses are usually just short... have been known to pull everything left of the green at times.
Short Game: Chipping - usually pretty confident round the greens with chipping. Putting - usually about 2 x 3 putts a round (score will depend on how many 1 putts i have to counteract those). Bunker play - woeful (lets hope i don't hit too many!)
Kooralbyn Scores: 9-8-07 (net 79), 25-4-07 (net 78 ). So 5 and 4 over par.

Overall: Will depend on how bad my misses are. If i'm just off the edges of everything then i should be okay. I like the greens there so that part of my game shouldn't be a problem. Will really depend on my irons.... (did you hear that you bloody pings??)

kpac
12th November 2007, 08:01 PM
Off the Tee: I've sacrifieced 20metres to find more fairways, i hit an altime high when playing with pete and shaz at southport, but have got worse by trying to hit it harder or something, so i've dropped back a couple of gears.

Iron Play: Total lottery and it will make or break me for the weekend, the new clubs take a bit of getting use to, cant getthe little fellas to go straight yet.....

Short Game: Biggest improvement by far. Confident to get 50%+ U&D's for a round, introducing a 54* as and alternative to the 60* in some instances has helped alot. Putter today was great, last week was average

Kooralbyn Scores: Nothing flash

Overall: More interest will be shown in the drinking and stuffing about this weekend, leave the serious for another day, besides if i tried to take it serious that course could punish me pretty bad...

Iain
12th November 2007, 08:35 PM
Off the Tee: Lottery depending whats turned up on the day, won't hit driver too often, hybrid pretty dependable if hole is less than 360m.

Iron Play: Generally my strength, solid ball striking, odd bad one thrown in, but thats why I'm off 11.

Short Game: Recently improved my chipping, still not as good as I'd like, but alot closer than I was a couple months ago. Putting is solid.

Kooralbyn scores: Haven't played there recently. Going in cold.

Overall: If I can bring a decent tee ball, then I'm a chance, if not, I could shoot in the high 80's to 90.

BrisWesty
12th November 2007, 08:57 PM
OFF THE TEE : 6 - 8 fairways recently, normally 12-15 effective tee shots.

IRON PLAY : approach shots OK, but recently developing a tendency to start drawing/hooking irons on occasion, which also stuffs up the distance calculations.

SHORT GAME : put me on the fringe with a 7 iron and I'm a happy camper. 30% sand saves - not good enough though.

PUTTING : 31 putts average with a low of 22 and a high of 42 (cored and sanded). Too many 3 putts (1-2 a round).

KOORALBYN SCORES : Never played there. Have fun everybody, would love to be there!

Playing to handicap (13) at present even if only hitting 3-5 girs - see approaches and short game!

Prediction for the champs - If AP plays like he did at Caboolture - him first daylight second. Awesome performance!
Rusty - dark horse.

damoocow
12th November 2007, 09:34 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Off the Tee: varies from hook to slice - but can guarantee to hit 1 out of 5 fairways per round

Iron Play: would probably hit irons better if I replaced 4 year old grips/actually would hit irons better if I replaced irons - distance and direction varies according to previous nights alcohol intake

Short Game: Bunkers - piece of piss / putting - EASY

Kooralbyn Scores: been a long time

Overall: previous 4 comp rounds have me playing to between 11 and 15 over playing handicap - I think that says a lot !............roll on buffet breakfast !!

Off the tee - driving like an old lady!!!!!! Usually find the fairway but lost all distance.

Fairway woods/ hybrids - hitting then pretty good.

Irons- hit and miss and miss.

Short game - chipping - usually execute the shot I picture - usually draw the wrong picture:smt093 Pitching - same story.

Putting - who knows what the greens will be like compared to what I'm used to.

Prediction - 27 points - 27 is my lucky number.:smt023

Off the Tee: Going great at the moment for some reason. Long and straight for the first 3/4 of the round, then I start to pull them left a little. Happy overall.

Iron Play: Hit and miss here. Round to round I could flush them all round or struggle all round. Just don't know what's on here.

Short Game: Rubbish. Say no more.

Kooralbyn Scores: Not played

Overall: Pretty happy at the moment. Happy with the average games I play, stoked when I play well, and don't play particularly poorly as often as I used to. Of course this is all relative as I am happy with where my game is at, and am not desperately trying to get better anymore. For me, around 11 is my where I want to be and I can almost play to it.
