Like it or hate it, i think we need it.

Abit of background - i'm a country member of a club 700 km's north of where i live (Casino), who is on GolfLink. Recently joined Sydney club Fox Hills - not GolfLink friendly.

I'm aware i'm nearing a blow to a handicap of 18, how close? I couldn't find out last Saturday, due to the massive deluge on Friday in Sydney, Fox Hills was shut. Not only that, but they weren't answering the phones :evil: .



So how the **** is a golfer sposed to find out his actual handicap when playing away from his (or her) home course??

Being that i play in northern NSW 4/5 times per year, it's enough to re-relocate my handicap back to Casino. Do clubs get a kickback for hosting more players? When i joined they were very eager for me to relocate it to Fox Hills?

When i finally caught them today (Monday), they tell me it's 17.1 - which seems odd. Again, at least with GolfLink you can easily keep track when courses are/are not sending cards back.

I hear you Fishy. I am a member at Gainsborough Greens and we don't have Golflink there either. I played a round at Gailes a few months back and shot 9 under my handicap but the card has not been sent back to my club so no update to my handicap :x

I only really joined a club so I could get and keep a handicap so next time my renewal comes around I will be looking for a club with Golflink.

Now I don't want to steal this thread, but is it my responsibility to ensure that my handicap is updated in these instances?????

Man, you shot the lights out that day! As far as the hcap goes, you could righfully pursue it, if you're interested. I'd chase up Gailes and get them to pass on the card to GG. Gailes should keep a record of all results in the book, so even if the card itself is lost, they could advise GG of your score and the CCR that day.

Depends on whether you'd rather be off 20 or 16 :wink:

We're stuck with the 'Haves' and 'Have nots' - and it sometimes feels like the 'Haves' couldn't be arsed doing it the way it's meant to be done.

Bare in mind though - there is equal responsibility between yourself and the club to ensure you are playing off the correct handicap, so if that means you call a club all week after playing at another course to return the card, then that's what you need to do.

The 'beauty' about GL is that at any time your handicap is accessible. I'm fully aware the Pro Shop at Fox Hills have other things to do than answer phone calls to do handicap checks.

I believe AGU policy is that you play off the handicap recorded on comp day at your home club.

WGA policy is that each member is responsible for maintaining their own handicap - hence if you lower it but the card hasn't come back, you must still play off the lowered handicap - it's your responsibility to check CCR/AWCR and calculate the reduction (or increase). This is always problematic as many computer scoring systems won't let you change your handicap :?

Thats not caused by a lack of Golflink at Gainsborough but the gross negligence of Gailes. They have a long standing reputation of never submitting visitors cards to Golf Link.

This, as with most golf rules, isn't the issue. It is up to the player to take responsibility, not just if it is enforced.
