Played a quick front 9 this afternoon.

Had 10 over off the stick so even par after handicap. 45-10=35

Quick 9 at Bankstown today - a completely different course from mine - fairways are about 50% wider - couldn't believe it. Played well except for the last hole - a washed out bunker with a small strip that was playable - sand was so heavy I barely escaped! Anyone have tips for hitting out of heavy wet bunkers?

Amanda, my bunker play has been nothing short of poor for a long time now. I've made one major change in the last few weeks which has turned it around significantly - I make sure that no matter how short my backswing is I go through with a much longer followthrough. I think it keeps me from decelerating in the downswing. Also when the sand is hard I used to use a club with less bounce, like a pw. I always used to bounce my sw into the ball when the sand was hard.

Of course my poor technique didn't help

Stableford Medley @ Casino

Had 34 points (15/19), 2 wipes (1 & 10 ). Early start so i wasn't really with it for the first 2 holes (wipe and 1 pt) before finally getting something together. Was 5 shots down after the wipe on 10, but came back with a birdie and a par.

Pretty happy with carding 19 pts over the back, most solid golf i've played since Jan 04.

Hehe. wonder what your comments will be when you have a game at Carnarvon. Our fairways are even wider than Bankstown
And I can find the rough without any trouble. Just to show how bad I'm with driver direction at the moment.

I play them like i would for a longer distance bunker shot, barely open the face and try to sweep the ball more than usual for a short bunker shot

Played in the "Carrington Park Challenge Salver" yesterday at my home course. We were defending our title. Team event of three players and aggregate stableford. We won on a countback - very very close!!!! My team members had - Libby (14) 40 points!! and Lorraine (29) a measley 23 points.......luckily my 44 points!!! was enough to help make up for her bad luck ( she is normally very consistant)

I played my best round ever - 43 on the front ( 6 over)and 41 on the back ( 7 over) for a 84. The CCR was 40 points so I lost 1.6 off my handicap. Now 19.7..............so so close to my end of year goal of 19.4. I soooooooo want to have a handicap in the "teens"

PLaying in a bowl tomorrow at Royal Melbourne........never played there so looking forward to playing on such a posh course

Thanks Andy :P

My playing partner Kate - who is recovering from leukimia - her husband Don ( also a keen golfer) is in hospital after a triple bypass last MOnday - gave me the inspiration to play well yesterday. They are both dear friends and even with evrything they are going through - still called me the night before to wish me luck. Don told me to play well for him - so I did. :D

You were robbed with a CCR that high. One stroke harder and you'd have been off 19...

What's a bowl? And, more importantly, how do I get in one to get a game at Royal Melbourne??!! Dang! 8) Have a great day!!

Played like crap today @ Byron Bay....Had 105  Thought some of the trees were going to fall down in the huge winds that are around.

First round with the 580XD w/ NV65. I love this shaft feels sooooo nice. I think I might take another half inch off it though as it still seems pretty long even though they took an inch off it after the reshaft.

Thought some of the trees were going to fall down in the huge winds that are around.
You have to be careful of those trees. They have been known to break the shafts in your woods.

Ouch Ouch Ouch!!!

played in the KGM Open (club open across the border) Friday Saturday (to qualify for Sunday)...

the fact that I'm posting this meant I didn't make the cut...
what's more painful was that I went 90/85 for the two days... :?

I was actually quite confident I could give the cut line a decent scare...given the last two times I've played (this year), I had rounds of 78 and 76...

ahhhh...it's a beautiful thing "pressure" is...

nevertheless, tomorrow is another day, Club MM... 8)

Played the standard stableford round at Cairns GC yesterday arve. Started well, with birdies on 2, 4 & 6, although the 2 double bogies saw me finish the front with 19 points. But the 2nd nine was a stark contrast to the first. An old back injury flared up and I struggled my way to 13 points to finish with 32. There's always next week.

So what the hell is a knoob anyway? :?

Can I assume that it is only the trees in the Jindalee area that have vicious tendencies. In that case, I am worried about doing any practice in my backyard. 8-[ (Not that I do )

Had a win yesterday at Oxley with my partner and I recording a nett 62 in a 4Ball stroke event. 8)
I had an eagle (sw in the hole from 60m) and a couple of birdies and lipped out 2 more, 1 over 73 for me. :D
Making some putts for a change and the new centreshafted Mezza is firmly in the bag
Can't wait for the champs.

had a 77 this morning for the MM...

actually thought it would be a hell lot worse, considering my lead up form...

was +5 on the front - 6 bogey, 1 birdie, 2 pars...
but managed to play 10 to 16 with pars, and was thinking birdies on 17 and 18 for a 73....wat a mistake that was...bogeyed the last two instead...

sounds like a classic case of talking yourself out've a good score :(

McMw
10th October 2004, 03:27 PM
I was actually not too fussed...as I was expecting a score in the 80s after my start on the front nine, as I usually don't score too well on the back...

but irons came thru nicely, and the driver was going great...

has a few putts that just wouldn't drop...

in fact, our 4ball didn't have a good putting round...seems like the workers who pulled the cup out didn't flatten the hole (so to speak) and it was like putting to an anthill...

Had the first two rounds of Club Champo over the weekend.
Round 1: 42+42=84
Round 2: 42+42=84

Now, when do you ever had same score for 4x consecutive 9 holes

We received pin positions for both days. ... First time for us, didn't help me much but did take guess work out of many holes.

Too nice a day to stay inside so I grabbed my brother and we headed to the 9 hole Altona Lakes (very) public course.

Shot 48 which included 2x8s and a 3 putt from 1.2m to walk off with a 4.

I didn't feel too bad about the quality of my game watching (and getting stuck behind) some very ordinary players.

McMw
10th October 2004, 10:25 PM
well....was leading the DivA MM until the final group came in, and a 10capper posted a 68nett...

not to worry...first MM "win" this year... :D
and a break in a very dry patch since earlier this year...

First round of ladies foursomes championship - you think that the A grade & B grade champs would make a good team but we both played shocking! I've never managed to hook my drives but somehow 2 in a row were beauties.

After 103/85.5 we are still in the hunt - only 5 shots off the lead!

Wow guys..........some great golf happening out there :smt038 \:D/

Played ROYAL MELBOURNE ( just thought I'd show off even more than I usually do!!) last Friday. Wow.what a great course to play on. The fairways are sooooo nice and the greens...the ball actually goes where you putt to - so unlike my home course which is on the side of a hill and you hardly ever hit off a flat lie.
I had a lovely 19 points on the front nine and then I think I just fell asleep. Don't even remember five of the next holes - but only picked up 3 points!!. Woke up for the next four holes and had 9 points - finishing with 31 points.
It was a great day and I throughly enjoyed playing such a great course. Can't wait for next year!

Played front nine at Rosebud yesterday - beautiful sunny day in Melbourne - and had a very nice 43 off the stick. We had a family golf day and bbq afterwards - and a great day was had by all.

Played terribly on the weekend. Having said that, had no 'luck' - extra run on one hole resulted in a drive about 30 metres longer - and in a hazard.

Couldn't get the speed of the greens, some of them were rock-solid, fast and wouldn't take any spin (couldn't stop a SW that hit-mid green from 70 metres), some were very soft and putts stopped metres short.

Very frustrating day - the course was actually closed last weekend due to the heavy rain, so some holes/greens were affected, others weren't!
