What car or cars would you buy? And why?

(and no blakey, you can't spend the money on gold bullion)

1 x two year old Porsche Boxster S -no I am not selling mine but after two years I can say I look forward to driving my car every single time I step into it.

It is also practical -it has two boots. I get two sets of clubs in the back boot (admittedly with a bit of f..ing around).

Your in Qld and a convertible is an absolute must -until you have had a car without a roof you just don't know what you are missing out on.

Drove the bosses late model BMW the other day, smoothest ride I'd ever had. Not sure what they cost though, but maybe one of them and an Echo for the wife

Skin Cancer?

Mrs wants one of the 4WD volvo XC90s, so might be one of them. No idea what I would get, money is too short for what I would really like :D.

Skin Cancer?

Yep I'm with PeteyD here. There's no way in the world I would want to be stuck in traffic with the roof down in the middle of summer. I owned a convertible when I live in the Cayman Islands and was well over it after half a summer!

If it was purely for me, Mazda RX 8. Can seat 4 (although wouldn't want to sit in the back personally) got plenty of performance and looks great and efficiency of a 1.3l engine.

If I had to buy something for the family Chrysler 300 Touring. Currently nicknamed the mafiamobile. Would love this in the driveway.

Both would still leave me enough for a Dodge Avenger, VW Golf or MAzda 6

Obviosuly I didn't read the question too carefully....

Honda Civic Type R 40K
http://www.caradvice.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2006/07/2007HondaCivicTypeR.jpg

Got a friend got a XR5, another one has the Type R in Red. The Type R just has a sportier ride, and faster around the track. It doesn't have the flat torque thru out a gear like a turbo XR5 would, but keep it above 5000rpm and its the livest thing on earth. (and using less gas)

Lexus RX350 $75000

V, with the RX8 I agree 75% of what you said but the wankel (wanker) 1.3l engine doesn't have the efficiency of a 1.3l engine at all. It drinks as much as a straight 6.

HSV GTS (80k) ... And it would be red, coz they go faster eh?

Dad recently bought one and I could not see why you would spend 150k plus on some euro when you can buy a car of this calibre in Oz.

BMW 335i 2 door coupe , look like a nice car and can fit a set of clubs in the boot without too much hassle. Except the Satnav in the BMW are crap, fair too difficult to operate.

You'd be looking at atleast $115k for a 335i.

Possibly all second hand, but maybe new. Current model Toyota Hiace Commuter trade model. Can you say duel sliding doors.... Grrrrrrowl.

Then somewhere around a Honda CSV, Holden Captiva or Bitsushitsi Outlander. Then add a runabout like a Honda Jaz, or something; cheap for rob to run day to day.

Maybe I could squeeze it all new, but probably 2nd hand on the commuter and the Jaz.

4. a lotus Elise 3
5. yamaha 650 sport bike thingy

and wait for it

6. a 1990 or thereabouts mazda 323 sedan/hatch thingy -talk about the odd one out!!

I’ll probably come under great ridicule for this, but I have no love of cars.

I know this is all meant to be a bit of fun, but my true response would be to spend 15k buying a 2 year old Camry Altise at the auctions & give the rest to aid workers in Cambodia.

Not much fun, I know, but it’s what my wife & I are into.

markTHEblake

Andrew, that reminds me of what i heard Peter Daniels say. "hands up who is happy with their lot and doesnt need work any more/harder"

about 1/3 of the audience put their hand up. He called them Lazy so and so's and said that if their capable of making more money than they need, they should do it, and give it to those people who cant.

That’s a similar philosophy to what my wife & I believe.

We actually did what I said about 3 years ago, but with 70k. The only sacrifice I had to make was to drive a Ford Festiva with 185,000km on it.

yeah a client was demonstrating it in his the other day, i just thought "if you can't reverse park a car yourself, you're either a rubbish driver or spend no time behind the wheel, so why the hell would you spend that much on a car...." pretty cool technology though. The top of the line mercs now are fitted with cruise controll that'll break for you and bring you back up to speed as well - scary all the computer power in these things.

I reverse parked my commuter many times, left and right sides of the road.

My first ever reverse park (after getting my license) was at noosa up at the main shopping district (not hastings street). It was during peak traffic and about 2 or 3 parks off of a 2 lane roundabout! I got that non-power steering v8 kingswood in first go! OK, I'm finished tooting my own horn.

goughy
27th October 2007, 11:23 PM
I don't think the price range is what he's worried about. He'll just pick a car he likes.

Found out tonight the maserati he's testing is second hand. I think he said it'll only lose like 5k every 3 years in value, whereis any of the other's lose 20k the second the wheels hit the road out of the lot.

His current car is a 1970 jag that he loves. Many a time it doesn't start. It has 2 fuel tanks (not duel fuel, just a left and right). He was really after his birth year (1971) but that was all he could find.

The basic XR5 Turbo is actually $35,990 + onroads, and I don't really need the leather interior...

Noticed they've been advertising the Landrover discovery 3 for $63,990 driveaway on TV. Hellova family wagon!
