Played a single stab at Carbrook today, 36 pts. 91 off the stick. One that got away when I realised I might break 90 :(. 20 Pts on the front and 16 on the back. 5 pars, 8 fairways, 2 gir and 32 putts. Greens were rough after being worked on 10 days ago.

Not as easy as it sounds AP, I try too but worst thing is partners giving compliments etc. Then you have a closer look. It is a habit that I am trying to solve.

I wouldn't say it, if I didn't do it myself. Most who have marked my card know that I don't add it up at the halfway point.

Of course, the lower the handicap, the easier it is to tell that you've blown all your shots.

Must admit best games are those that I don't know how well/bad I am going at halfway.

PeteyD
24th October 2007, 04:52 PM
I didn't add up at halfway, but with a handful of pars and nothing worse than double I knew I was travelling allright. Took driver twice where plan calls for a 3 or 7 wood, both OOB. Enough said.

Well my first Wednesday comp - single format- for quite some time. And boy did it show. I reckon I've lost 20mtrs off the tee and have just lost any swing I had.
And after 5 years of golf - my handicap has gone out for the first time. Goodbye 16 - hello 17.
Need to have a couple of lessons and regular practise to get back in the groove.
Todays result - 33 points - 16 and 17 - but I felt like I played worse than that.

Scottt

36 points in the comp at Penrith. Had shots on 5 of the last eight holes but finished 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 1, 2.

Tears.

A round of 11 over that included a run of +2 over 8 holes.

Played @ Strathfield today for the first time.

Played pretty good, understatement!! Played sensational!!! Best game in ages, 38 points with a wipe and 2 one pointers. Not sure of stats, did not take any notice of them or the scorecard until the finish. Hit the driver ok, best part of play was the good options taken off the tee on the shorter par 4's and the short game was back. Holed a bunker shot for birdie on a par 3.
Was a group of 3 and I was the swinger, 48 in one group and 43 in the other. Was B grade leader in the clubhouse when I left, 31 was second. 2nd(=1st) & 5th in the 2B.

Could be a handicap reduction too.:smt023

Played Mac Grange, not too bad 39 points:), not enough to win but actually never is at Mac Grange. Too many good scorers, 45 points was leading B grade. Will look at stats later,d did not putt too badly but missed a lot of 1st putts that should have dropped. Mac Grange greens are looking good just stupidly slow.

Stats
84 Gross
9 Fairways
6 GIR
0/6 Up & Downs
0/4 Sand Saves

36 points with plenty left out there on the course. Put the Hibore XL in the bag for the second round and bombed it.

8/14 fairways
9/18 GIR's
34 putts (only 1 3 putt)
2 birds
7 pars
6 bogies
2 doubles
1 triple

Appear to be back on track after the wobblies recently (especially on the greens). Short game desperately needs some work, missed 4 greens from within 50m :(

Individual stableford today. I was a little unsure of what to expect, but after a bit of range work, I was reasonably comfortable with how I was hitting them. I ended up shooting 79 (37pts) which is the first time in a long time that I have broken 80 & also beaten my h'cap. The Superquad was on fire again today (best club ever 8)). I hit a bunch of drives around 300m down the middle, including driving the 307m 1st green (made an easy par ).

79 gross: (38/41)
37pts: (19/18.)
FIR: 11/14
GIR: 6/18
U/D: 5/11

27/10/2007, Ipswich GC, Stroke.

10/15 effective T-shots.
6/18 effective approaches.
6/13 up & down successes (after being 0/6).
33 putts.
--------------
2 birdies.
5 pars.
9 bogeys.
2 doubles (both holes included a shank).

Score 42-41-83 nett 72 [74] (Par 36-36-72 CCR 69)

Thanks to poidda for the round today. It's lucky that he is alright company, as we played as a twosome in the end. Those spots weren't available when I made the booking. If I had known there were pullouts, I would have put an OZgolf invitation out.

Ipswich GC at the moment is dry, bare and playing compulsory tee up, even on the chips shots, which made things rather difficult and took some adjusting to (note my U&D stats). The plus was that we could play the 3 par 5s with driver/driver (although I forgot the first time).

I'm pretty happy with the way I hit it today, considering the circumstances. I just wish I could do those first 5 holes again (6 over). I'm hitting the driver fantastically at the moment, and I hope it continues as it is a great "headstart" to a hole.

Putting was tough, as I had a lot of trouble reading, and sometimes it just wouldn't break when you were sure that it had to.

Anyway, that's 0.1 to put me out to 10.7. ;)

Next round: Besides pitch 'n putt, maybe the Champs. Not ideal really, but I'll try to rectify that.

BrisVegas

monthly medal off the blacks today. "Had no luck" as they say, but am happy enough with how I was hitting it. Putting was good and I made a couple of sand saves and u & d's.

5 GIR
28 putts.

It's been quite dry for a while now, couple of guys from work are members there...

Tee up on chip shots?? :-s Why not just stick a tee right into the ground, so the ball is sitting on the ground still??

AndyP
28th October 2007, 12:29 PM
We were told by local members to tee up, unless we were within two club lengths of the green.

It's still doesn't feel right when hitting through the ball, no matter how low the tee is, plus you can't stick a tee into the ground when it's that dry. You have to use a tee that is already broken.

I found that most of my chips were going past the hole, because I was catching it cleaner than usual.

33 points at Moss Vale today in the matchplay with Mikezone 13 and other NSW OzGolfers.

The match didn't make any difference to my score, which is a bit flattering. I managed to avoid the trees of the tee, but my short irons were awful. So many times I drove on or near the fairway, missed the green with a short iron, chipped to between 5 and 8 feet, and then missed the putt. There must've been six of those today.

Two games on the Gold Coast next week. Could be 23 points unless the ball-striking gets better.

Moonah Links weekend golf (virgin on both courses)

Saturday
- Legends Course PAR event finished SQUARE, won the ball comp ,fairly small field, but hey someone had to win CCR was 71. Just on the buffer so I didn't come in a shot.

Sunday
- Open Course Stableford event finished with 34 points (equal fourth overall), (anyone in Melbourne could tell you that yesterday was not the best day to playing the Moonah Open course) Some of the toughest conditions that I have ever played in, so 34 points in those conditions and on a course that I had never seen I pretty happy.

Yeah played Ipswich on Saturday (for the first and last time). I lost interest on the first hole after finding out it's compulsary tee up, followed by a bunker shot which was concrete with a dusting of sand on top. I lost interest on the first hole after finding out it's compulsary tee upI struggled to cope with the stress of losing my only plastic (practically unbreakable) tee hitting a chip shot on the first hole, and knowing I was down to only a few wooden tees for the rest of the day. Cheers Bruce,
I was stoked but a little disappointed at the same time, I had 2 eights in the last three holes, that pissed me off.

I have been playing golf for over 25 years and that would have to have been the toughest day I have ever played in. Having said that I was equal third best score for the day, with someone off 27 shooting 41 points. Sheeeez

I would also go as far to say that the 18th of the Open course is one of the most unforgiving closing holes in golf.
