I'm in and I'll volunteer notlob too, even though he's in NZ at the moment. He doesn't play anywhere near enough, so I'll put some pressure on him to play.

Our open day thread shows Carbrook at $19 for the Sunday.

That's right Pete. Sunday the 7th is the second round of the Carbrook Classic. A 2-day stroke event with over $12,000 in prizes. You don't have to play in both rounds. There are prizes for day 1, day 2 and overall.

That said, there is still a bit of room left in the afternoon field off the 10th tee (4 groups available from 11:40am to 12:02pm). We might have to get in early if we want to book a few groups.

If Dan doesn't check in here by the end of today, I might get in touch with the club myself and see what's avaliable.

Since it is the Classic, the cost will be closer to $30-35. I'll confirm this when I talk with them.

There are currently 3 groups available off the 10th at the same time (11:48am to 12:02pm). The morning field is completely booked bar a few single places.

I'll find out more information, but I think there is a deal available for players wanting to play both days.

I won't be signing myself up for both days, one round on that weekend will be enough for me. Either day is fine, as long as it is the same day that Dan plays.

I had a look around the Carbrook website and although the Classic is mentioned in their newsletters, the entry cost is not.

Hi there,

I look after Carbrook's web site and as soon as I receive something from them about the classic, I'll add it and let you know.

The course is in great shape, I hope you all enjoy your round, and take senecio's money.

I played this morning and the course is looking pretty good. It should set-up very well next week.

The place was chocka block full of Srixon gear this morning. There must be more than 20 cart bags up for prizes. Ozgolf has a long standing history at these big events. I'll be disappointed if one of us can't take it out.

We'll get you down here another time.

Why does the Saturday cost more than the Sunday?

Don't know? Both days are the same price for members, but not for visitors.

Not sure how they've worked that one out? Might be because the numbers are usually down on the Sunday. Some people only decide to play Sunday if they've had a good round on Saturday.

I don't think you'll be disapointed with the course condition Pete. Its in pretty good shape. The greans are (and always will be) a little grainy, but last weekend they cut them a little shorter than normal and it took some of the grain out.

Grass coverage is very good considering the current conditions. We are in a better position than most courses around with our access to recycled water (just remember to hold your breath as you approach the 3rd green!). You'll still find some bare patches just off the fairway, but if you keep it straight (or wide enough to reach the next fairway  ) you'll be fine.

So, we're only a few days away from this. Where is all of the pre-game sledging, the cat fights over who's not playing with who? Its a little bit quiet in this thread.

Which one of you is writing up the course guide for us?

Since we're off the 10th I'll start there.

Don't go right on 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16 and 18

Don't go left on 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 9

Take an extra club on 2, you'll come up short, trust me.

Oh, and most importanly. Watch out for the Maggie that patrols the trees between the 10th and 12th.

Glad I could help.

my abbreviated guide from playing there once (mostly things that might not be ovious from the tee)

1st 250m to water - 50m from Green; water left 150m carry; off Tee go a little right
2nd Green is further away - take atleast extra club
3rd Tee to right of left trees; water at back, right & front of Green
4th -
5th 2 tier Green
6th water left & right 55m from Green
7th -
8th dogleg right
9th dogleg right
10th aim left of tree; 240m to green box on fairway; lagoon beyond green box is 60m from Green
11th best miss is back/pin high left
12th water front left of Green
13th dogleg right
14th -
15th shortish drive okay; Green 30m long
16th dogleg right; OB right
17th fairway bunker 215m from Tee
18th -

greens run fairly true

so will Alo have and be using his new sticks in time...

I dont think it will be new gear in their bag
More the fact that everyone is getting new bags

Oh and then there is PeteyD's irons
But they arnt new so its all fine...It doesn't count

That is the best course guide ever. Oh on 12 though you dont want to be right, but you want to be on the right side of the fairway. Im gathering a few of us will enjoy walking through the sand on 12 and 13 though looking for our balls out of bounds. Im regularly there on 13.

Oh and if anyone hits the 14th green they are doing well. That thing is a killer. Nothing ever seems to hold.

And anyone that hits driver on 15 is a fool.

It is a big magnet
I picked up 5 pro v's in great condition the other week. They were just sitting just over the hill. Also got 5 dodgy balls, but hey...they are alright for the practice bag

There is only 1 way to hold the 14th. Top a hybrid off the tee and run it up there. It worked for the old fart I played with last week. Easy tap in birdie. ;)

Only time I can remember it being held was a topped shot ...

I did it the other week with a skyed 4 iron. Came down with so much height and it still ran 5 metres

Went to the chiropractor for the first time on Thursday. One of my shoulder blades was out of position and I now know why I was having hooking problems! Went well at the range today so have high hopes for tomorow !! hehe

I guess so Iain. You'll have to pay for both days up front to get the discount.

I'm sure they'll save the "fun" pin positions for when you show up on Sunday AP.

Thanks for organising bb, and thanks for the day lads.

It was pretty tough out there with the wind blowing around, and the conditions and course were too good for my game today. Nothing like my 78 with 3 birds off the social markers from my last visit. :(

Well played, Iain. I can now see why that 8 on the par 5 4th was a bit annoying. I didn't know you had a score going, although it was pretty obvious with the number of pars you'd scored.

Iain
8th October 2007, 03:59 AM
Thanks Andy. Was a little annoying, but these things happen. I'm just glad I've managed to get a reasonable short game going for a few rounds in a row. And I got rid of that cut I had Saturday.....

Thanks for both days everyone.

Thanks for the game peteyd & alo on sat.

It was good to see senecio game close up. 1 over of the card through 12 holes I think, the last 6 holes was a horror.

Thanks for the two days Billybaub. It was great to play with you again. To make the sunday interesting danny and I played for $20, we played stroke and he gave me 6 shots, he was happy after the sat round to know he could still win on the last if he was close. After a realy slow start danny was 8 shots at the turn. he picked up 3 shots on 1st after another horror tee shot, and he was on his way.

by our 15th he played the perfect hole, while I was leaking.... He was one up. By the 18th we were square again after I used chief on the par 5;). I teed of first with the chief again all or nothing. Hook left. Danny puts chief back and goes safe with a 3 wood down the left. Danny puts his approach short into the water. I find my ball short of the 12th hole. And hit the perfect 4 iron into the back bunker, I splash out to 3m. Danny dropped and then pitched into the back bunker. Danny hits trouble and I lip out and two putt for bogie and the win.

High light of the two days -
-holing a wedge from 70m for bogie.
-driver/4 iron to the last for a 5 instead of the 9 yesterday.

It a nice course. next year we need morning tee times.
