Brookwater is hosting the QLD qualifier for the Master of the Amateurs. Gross and Nett winners go the final at Yarra Yarra in January.

It's only open to hcaps 12 and under. $130 incl. hat and dinner afterwards.

At this point, I am pretty keen. Anyone else want to join me to make up a group? We could wear our ozgolf logo shirts! 8)

I would love to have my handicap down to 12 by then, and will be trying to do so. I just can't spend $130 on golf (and extras). Especially after the big Champs weekend.

Fair enough. It's a lot of cash. :(

You'll be off less than 12 by then Andy.

OK, I'm definitely in. Just faxed them my nomination form.

stoney is playing as well. 8)

Should be no problems to be grouped together. If anyone else is keen, just give them a call and ask to be grouped together with "Dion Knowles" and "Peter Stone".

Jaster, Tez, Gaz, blakey, all other sub-12 hcap'ers....

Could be a tough day out at Brooky this Sunday if I hit it like I did around Coolangatta-Tweed. At least it's only 18 holes of punishment this time... :)

Wouldnt you rather play at the Ozgolf Masters at Horton Park?
Much cheaper.

No.

And besides, I paid for this weeks ago and it's 5 mins from my house.

Played this today. I didn't cope with the rain too well and had 91.

Only one player broke 80. Gross winner had 77, runner-up 82. Net winner was 77. My partners had 103 and 97 by comparison.

Tough day. It really should have been postponed due to lightning, it was pretty scary out there. Not many spots for relief from casual water on the fairways!! Despite the big score, I actually hit the ball pretty good. I had a few fat or sculled chips from the sloppy lies, but otherwise, just poked it down the middle. I had a shank on the 17th into the drink, resulting in a smooth triple. Tripled the 2nd as well, after trying to hack my way out of the lateral hazard beside the green! Gotta love stroke events... I ate two serves of lunch to get some value for my money. Oh, the "free" NEC hat is ok too, I guess.

I can't believe that they didn't cancel / reschedule the event. :?

I was driving down the road at about 11:30 this morning with about 20 metres visibility through sheets of rain, thinking, "Vegas cannot possibly be playing today"

Hey, you got a free hat, at least!!

Yeah, it was pretty disappointing to have the weather go so bad. I guess you have to be able to play in all seasons, but I doubt whether the organisers expected some of the embarrassing numbers that came in. A lot of players walked off during the lightning show, and I can't say I blame them.

If nothing else, the winner (a teenager) will be ready for whatever weather Melbourne dishes up!!

Vegas, take comfort in the knowledge that you weren't the only OZgolfer out in the rain today.

How close do you reckon the lightning was while you were playing?
How does Brooky cope with lots of rain?
We found that both Nambour and Horton Park coped pretty well.

1. The lightning and thunder clap was simultaneous, and it seemed like the flash was right over our heads. Got a tingling sensation and it freaked us all out pretty good.

2. Not too bad I guess, considering there was a few inches of rain fall in a short period of time. The greens were very good. It was mainly the dips and hollows in fairways and around the greens that were waterlogged.

There's a group pic too. I'm on the far right, next to the rooster in the pink shirt. Interesting to note how many players walked off during the storms and didn't hand in cards. There were 70 players. Only about 50 scores came in!

pretty ordinary turnout - only one golfer on a handicap of <4.

I heard there were a few more off lower than 4. They could well have been among the 20 or more who didn't turn in results. I mean, if I was a 2 hcap (for instance) and was on my way to an 85, I can see the temptation to not have that result published for the world to see.
