Okay guys.

While 69er is offline for a few days, give me some ideas on where to play him and whats his type of game as i've never played with him before.

Any hints?

I learnt from Jarro... don't play him on a short course
I learnt from Shazza.... don't play him hung over
I learnt from Eags.... dont' play him on a course designed by his company / hard course...

Anything else????

goughy

So you don't want to squeeze into his group for the pro am up here?? ;)

peter_rs
31st August 2007, 04:57 PM
I didn't think it was fair considering i'm at a wedding the day before (read: getting drunk to put up with Shazza's family) and for the last two years i've won my 'grade'. :)

Bulimba par 3..... I know where that is.... 2 ferry stops away. and you go back to the bar every 3 holes... could be perfect :) A shot of jack for every hole someone is down.... two shots per hole for the person who is up.

Thanks for the support AP.... I like trying to set records.

We wil NOT be playing at Riverlakes.
I'm actually thinking a Sat morning at Windaroo..purely from geographical point of view.

Riverlakes is 5 min further up the road ya goose, poor excuse :-s

Terry.

AndyP
6th September 2007, 06:45 AM
How about Riverlakes being an old home club of Pete's, therefore it's not a "neutral venue" as suggested by the rules. That's a much better excuse.

markTHEblake
6th September 2007, 07:04 AM
Not to mention much wider fairways, which is a definite advantage for someone who sprays it a bit as opposed to a bunter.

BrisVegas
6th September 2007, 07:09 AM
it's unlikely to be City GC this weekend as I got a message from g69 saying he's hurt his back and is 50-50 whether he'll play the pro-am.

It was never my home club... I was just a corp member. TGC held my AGU.

I would go the other way. windaroo has so much more room and long which I like. riverlakes has water everywhere that gets me is so much trouble.

peter_rs

why I do it to myself all the time. I have only broken 80 3 times. twice at windy. :) if you want shazza to bring me down it would have to be a sunday round ;).

But in seriously do people think windy is harder then river lakes. at windy you see the trouble at riverlakes its hidden.

on a side note how green is oxely come up with the rain.

BrisVegas
6th September 2007, 11:50 AM
I think Riverlakes is easier than Windaroo. I've only played it twice (I think) and played to hcap both times. It's shorter and there are more scoring opportunities. I've played Windaroo about 50 times and played to hcap maybe 3 or 4 times max.

peter_rs
6th September 2007, 12:42 PM
I'm the other way.

I can get to all the par 5's at windy in 2 but I can only get to 1 at riverlakes

theres no forced lay ups for me at windy but there is at riverlakes.

yes riverlakes is shorter but you have to plan you way more. IMO

Am I not mistaken, but isn't 13 long with water down the right and houses/OB down the left??? If you spray your driver off the tee either way you're screwed!

#1 & #3 are pretty tight too, not good for a sprayer. Come to think of it, I've never seen anyone get home on the 1st in two shots. It's pretty long.

Very true Dion, I have played with Nudgee on quite a few occasions at Windy and he has hit some monster drives on that hole and never got home.
Pete, no offense mate but if Nudgee can't get home then none of us can

peter_rs
6th September 2007, 04:57 PM
I'm not saying I can get to all the par 5's every time in all condition. but I have got to all of them at one stage.

the 1st is only 490m
the 13 th is 520m by the dogleg

In comparison the 13th at riverlakes is 560m and even downwind the best I have done is 10m of the front. I have also hit a 5 wood on to the 280m par 4 15. anything can happen in the right conditions.

3rd is tight but not that long so you can lay up of the tee or if you trust your driver aim at the left hand bunker and cut away. on most holes at windy there is a clear lay up zone at 200 of the tee you can play for.

Did anyone get some of the $5 on offer about me from Centrebet in the match against eags ?
I reckon I'd be a similar rough hope against Pete..he has to be the red hot fave.

Yeah bluff away! I see your game, and not going to fall for it again like I did with the poker! Oh hang on, that was you that couldn't read my bloood shot eyes, wasn't it! haha.

I have played golf with 69 a few times. The last thing that comes to mind is that he is a straight hitter of the golf ball off the tee with his driver.

quite a handy short game though. With a couple of more shots under his belt he will be a sought after partner in ambrose events.

BrisVegas
9th October 2007, 07:14 AM
I'm a chance for Windaroo if you make it EARLY on a Sat or Sun morning. Perhaps dc68 would like to play too, so we can have the two semi-final matches in one group. Much as it kills me to pay green fees elsewhere these days, I need to get the match played sooner or later.

I thought you were playing Windarooo.

oh well at Colonial you could play a modified matchplay, winner is the one who can play the most consecutive holes without losing a ball.

In fact I'd bet you $100 you cannot finish the whole 18 holes using the same ball you started with.

When did these blokes at Southport say they do the draw ?

I can make a call to Windaroo and see whats on. Failing that gainsborough could be an option.

Would be good to split the matchplays into each foursome, gives the rest of us the opportunity to sledge someone off their game.

I indicated we'd need 2 groups. Maybe you need to give him another call and sweet talk him. I also dont mind if we hit off real early if that allows us to get 3 or 4 groups booked.

I just rang and they said we are "no chance" of getting 3 groups on a Saturday morning. they have 200+ members that play on a Saturday and they give preference to them for morning games. The guy (Paul) said we could play in the afternoon.

...so the course must be in half decent shape..That's not what billybaub reported. It only takes $ to host a Qld Open, doesn't it? Quality of course doesn't seem to have much to do with it.

what quality you talking about - course layout, or condition.

With the Qld Open coming up the grounds staff will be working overtime to make sure the course is on best shape for the event. That would include surrounds, gardens, cleanups everything.

AndyP
11th October 2007, 10:55 AM
Both. There's nothing great about the layout, and billybaub mentioned that the condition was ordinary as of a week or so ago.

peter_rs

Sorry to the masses but I would pay the extra and get first look at Colonial Golf Course over GG. GG greens where average (which may be fixed for the open) but the course needs lots of water there is a layer of dead grass just under the surface of the fairway and rough (makes it hard if you take divots).

Carbrook is a no go on a sat morning its hard enough to get one spot.

River lakes is possible but g69 all ready ruled that out and its a last choice for me normally but its a no as the greens are getting cored next week.

If we can keep the numbers together it would be good.

Hang on a minute Andy, some of us do shift work who also work weekends and have rosters that can change in the last minute. It's ok for you Mon-Fri 9-5 people as weekends are yours to do as you wish.
I put my name down as a pencil most of the time due to fact I don't want to waste peoples time.

If I do have to pull out it will be for a legitimate reason.

BrisVegas
16th October 2007, 10:44 AM
Eagsy, you'd made it clear that you could only play in the morning and you've since done the right thing and taken your name off the list of starters. No problems from me.

I think the general gripe andyP is having is regarding people who never really "commit" to a game until the last minute, but get others to make tee times for them "just in case" they can make it.

Hey Dion

G69 knows the deal, Toll wanted a cubing system installed before DST started down south and I'm in perth until the 1/11 so if they give the go ahead(they missed the weekend just gone) I will have to install the gear that weekend and be out. They were ment to confirm on friday. I hope they confirm one way or the other early this week, once they do I will let yourself and G69 know. sure thing kpac. has anyone got damo's number?

be a shame to see a late scratching, especially by peter_rs. i know how much golfer69 was looking forward to the match. a walkover would be a letdown...
