Here's a brain-teaser;

Who is the only team to have won 2 things in the same year - the Premiership and the Wooden Spoon?

:?: Is the premiership, the full season or pre-season?

Not the pre-season ;)

Here's my thoughts.

This may have been during the war period or something, when only four or five teams were playing. As a result the team that finished last, qualified for the finals, then won the premiership.

I'm thinking Fitzroy. But it may be Carlton. Why else would you know this trivia? :-k

from the non-football (of any kind) supporter;

Isn't it St Kilda. 4 team competition and they came last then won the finals series.

And no, I didn't look it up. I'd heard it years ago. I hope I'm right.

Gee whiz - that's a little too easy..

Well done team, you're both right. 1916 when a number of teams (Essendon, Geelong, Melbourne, Sth Melbourne and St Kilda) had to be shut down effectively due to the war. The remaining teams were Carlton, Collingwood, Fitzroy and Richmond.

The 'Roy boys picked up the wooden spoon, and then proceeded to beat Carlton twice in 2 weeks to win the flag.

I knew it wasn't the Saints, as they have only won one premiership. 1966.

The irony of that 1916 season was that Fitzroy were so bad that they would have come last if there were 12 teams in the comp - they actually won more games in the finals than they did for the entire season!

chalk up Another one for the Fat Lady theory

Ok then, one for the (not so) Saints fans;

How many times have St Kilda been beaten by over 100 points?

Well, kind of got the cercumstances right but the team wrong. Not bad for a non-footy guy. I just can't wait for man united to win their first afl grand final. Hang on, have I got the team/code wrong again :oops:

I would have no reason to know this, and don't have a clue. It is something that would have to be looked up, I guess.

:?: Fishy, you don't happen to have the AFL 2004 book, do you?

My brother in law (a Carlton supporter) asked me the other day just after Pagan's departure, "Gee you must be happy about Geelong at the moment."

"Nah, I'm probably happier about Carlton at the moment."

Note: I quite like Pagan, but not a big fan of his squad.
Note 2: I am really happy about Geelong ATM.
