Bought a sleeve of these after 9 today, i'm due for a new carton and didn't know what to buy, but used the old things in my bag to start with.

I liked them, as an 18 chopper i didn't notice that i'd lost any distance - and when i sorted some fundamentals out with driver today they went pretty well.

They spin well although the feel off the club face is a little more solid, they we're not talking B51's here.

For about $50 a box, a mid-marker might want to save the extra few dollars you'd spent on Cally's, Hogans or Titleists - they're only going to end up in the dams and creeks anyway. ;)

ouch! I've been getting charged $75 at my club  They are a pretty good ball though. I was using the Callaway HRX but found they didn't go as far and scuffed up quite badly. I used to hate the old Revos because they went yellow but these new ones are much better.

Fishy,

Are these the speedmantle ones ?? They have Maxfli and EXT on the ball with a red dot ??

Guy sent me some of the description I have just given, best balls I have used for ages, including the Pro V1, just can't find the same ball in Aus yet ???

I can't recall Pete, i think it says "Large Core" or "Large Mantle" on them. These have 'Revolution II' in smaller red letter under the MaxFli logo.

Chucky - i know what you mean about the original Revo's - i hated they way they went that yellow colour. The A10's also did it to an extent. I played 9 holes with a single Revo II and not a scuff on it, so they don't cut up like the previous version of the Revo/A10 either.

I'd be interested to see how the new Maxfli balls go, they have given the other companies a very large headstart!!

I have found that the Precept U-Tri Extra Spin are the best bang for the buck you can buy, I have used these a fair bit in practice and feel like I hardly lose anything over ProV1Xs....maybe they are a little shorter and have less "click" but they are great balls for under $40 a dozen!

What I really liked about the Precepts is that they were very durable.

:)

Kind regards,

Ben (Ducky).

I currently use these too.

I think they get knocked up easier than the Laddies that I usually use. :?

Andy trees, cart paths + other hazards will do that to your ball

I thought there durability was great, used one for around 36 holes with 0 problems and I know goughy uses them also and said that they are pretty good.

I just thought that they looked a bit more scuffed. Maybe I am paranoid because of the face on my new driver. :?

Do you mean your old driver? You wouldn't have bought it new you tight a$$ :D

New to me, anyway.
And I'd prefer to keep that extra $200 or so in my wallet, thanks. :D
Just like my "new" 3 wood.

:?: The skuff marks on the ball would mark the face of the SMT wouldn't they?

Your new  driver is titanium, your golf ball is plastic...I wonder which one would be harder :-k The only real way a ball will mark a driver is if there is some sand or grit in between the clubface and ball at impact...so I guess a scuff mark might mark your driver but if you are aware of it and tee it up away from the scuff I don't see how....but seriously...your really worried about that?? You are turning into a HO mate, no doubt about it

AndyP

but if you are aware of it and tee it up away from the scuff
Yep, that's what I was doing.

....but seriously...your really worried about that?? You are turning into a HO mate, no doubt about it
You're right, it's only cosmetic. It won't perfect the performance at all.

And why must I continually have to defend myself against these HO allegations?.

So....anyway, back on topic.
FD, I haven't used these balls. In fact, I haven't used a large variety of balls at all. I'm not sure I can tell too much difference from one to the other, that are the same style. :?
And as you say, for players of our ability, balls don't really stay in the bag that long.
Although I have resisted using the Dunlop Black Maxs recently.

Does this mean you were a chance of running out by the end of the round? How many did you lose in the front 9?

After an 8 week break i had no idea what was left in the bag. A few random balls, and some TaylorMade InnerGel's - pretty ordinary ball bought on sale a couple of years ago.

How many did i lose? Recovered one from a creek on the 2nd (11th), blocked a long-term fave 'recovery' ball OOB on the 3rd, and on the 7th (16th) i shanked one right and never found it - think it ran under a fence into a neighbouring home. Nothing too tragic, but i was running low.

My last dozen were the older A-10's, which i was a little disappointed with - especially seeing as though i thought i was buying the new breed

I checked at HoG yesterday - Revo II's are $70, but the Fox Hills Pro Shop sold them to me for $5 ea., so when it comes to buying a dozen i might wait.

$70!!?? ouch. forgot how much balls cost...

I've been buying "pre-loved" balls from wherever I play for the past year or so. Usually find Strata, Laddie, UTRI etc for about $2 each.

Every now and then I find a ProV1 and love the feel they give. I can't see me ever buying a new one though....

I haven't spent money on brandnew balls since April last year, proshop credits are great 8)

I envy you being able to play one course all the time and master it. I have played all over the shop in the past few years, so usually struggle to shoot my handicap. Prizes haven't been thick and fast for me for years... Not since I moved away from Toowoomba actually.. :(

:?: Why don't you get the pre-loved balls off ebay like some of the other guys do?

Yep, normally there are plenty of proV's on ebay, normally go max 50 for a dozen, but sometimes they go cheaper. Most are in good shape too.

I'm really liking the Hogan Apex Reds at the minute 8),picked up 3 dozen just recently for about $120 from Rockbottom golf.
Better than paying $80 per dozen here.

When you say 'Most' - how many would you consider are too dodgy to bother using? Are these 'AAA' rated, or do you go to a specific vendor?

usually, out of a dozen, there might be one or two that are cut a bit. most have scratches and stuff on them, but they play really well 8)

So which one is the Revolution II on that Maxfli site......the EXT or the Tour?
Have they changed the name of the ball for the Australasian market? :?

Don't worry about that Pete, i'm just happy to author a thread that makes it to 100 posts.... even if it goes off thread and starts talking about shiny things...

The Revo II i bought (and can see retail) must be a specific ball for our market? Irrespective - they aren't a bad ball, but for around the $70 mark i'd prefer to spend a couple more $'s and get some Hogan's.

Gaz, this is what I am trying to work out as well, I might drop them an email and see if they answer. I have a dozen of the EXT, bloody spectacular (hangon maybe I have said this already ??). Will let you know but if Mau has them in (where is he again ??) and I got mine from the states, is it the A10 ??

Fishy, maybe we should compare our....no, um, have you got the box they came in Fishy  ??

Nearly finished that sleeve i bought and the verdict is in - long and very nice feel around the greens. They don't cut up either, even after a round on a dry and dusty track at Casino there's barely a blemish on it, and it's still WHITE!

At $5 per ball at Fox Hills i should have bought them out - HoG have them for about $70 per dozen, pro shops about $8.50 per ball.
